From the trailer only (have not watched it yet), seems depressing and negative to me - with a hint of bullying.
so it should be filled with sh!ts and giggles?

By the way, cluedos to the director. It may very well deserve the award, but these are just the impressions I got from the trailer.

I think you meant "kudos" instead of "cluedos"
The latter "Cluedo" is a murder mystery deduction board game we used to play as kids.
Hearsay:
Ilo Ilo, which just won Singapore's first Cannes award, was rejected funding by at least 15 *** MPs and MICA.
anyone can verify?
Award-winning filmmaker, Anthony Chen has been given funding by the Singapore Film Commission for his first feature film entitled “Ilo Ilo”. The film is set in mid 1990s in Singapore, and chronicles the relationship between three young brothers and their maid from Iloilo, a province in Philippines. All his short films have received international attention. Most notably, his second short film, "Ah Ma (Grandma)", was nominated for the Palme d’Or for Short Film at the 60th Cannes Film Festival, and received a Special Mention, a first for a Singapore filmmaker.

I note that Publichouse.sg and many other sites took this up quickly as a jiffy.
Sad that not many people in alternative media bother to do a quick Google before posting it up. And then just as quickly took it down once others who bothered to Googled pointed out the link below. Who watches the watchers?
in-the-news
FYI, Anthony Chen did his Masters with a MDA scholarship. See 2009 link.

in my opinion the agencies did the right thing by rejecting it. if they had done the funding, netizens would have been quick to condemn them for supporting the Foreigners, and deem the film as propaganda.
if they hadn't, well, this is still the same negative outcome, but not as bad.
Er, they didn't reject, did you read my links?
