It is partly about staking a claim.
Presently technology and cost barriers prevent other countries besides USSR (unmanned), USA (manned) and China (unmanned) from lunar landing.

When more countries can do so, they will start to quarrel over who has "rights" to which part of the moon.

Yup, 玉兔 "Yutu" (Jade Rabbit) squeaking via direct Microwave (X Band) comms uplink from either Low-Gain Antenna (LGA (omnidirectional)) or High-Gain Antenna (HGA (directional)) in response to Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) burst transmissions sent by the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

玉兔 "Yutu" (Jade Rabbit) has been revived by her shifu(s) at Beijing Aerospace Command and Control Center (BACCC) and is now alive after being officially declared lost and written off by China National Space Administration (CNSA) just several days! Slowly regaining conspicuousness but status still critical.

Doppler corrected signal from Yutu rover, pretty strong signals, in fact almost the best I have seen! I need a QSL!

The fact that 玉兔 "Yutu" (Jade Rabbit) lasted this long beyond the expectations of many and is still operational after all this time is a testament to what the Beijing Aerospace Command and Control Center (BACCC) of the China National Space Administration (CNSA) can accomplished when the best minds amongst 1,367 billion citizens places their hearts and souls into it with the utmost dedication.
