Thanks guys.
OK, this is the story. I was shooting hockey with Actionman, then I suggested we leave the Delta pitch at about 7pm, to head for dinner plus recce on the fly for a spot to shoot. Original location that I wanted was actually the big plain just before reaching Marina South MRT. Saw lots of people there, tripods and all. I didn't read about the firing site of the fireworks, so I was also expecting it to be fired from the same location as last year - Fort Road area. So I was asking some folks, they weren't too sure. the time was about 8.45pm then - and then I decided to run the risk of getting nearer to the Sheares Bridge, and took a gamble (no, I don't buy 4D, Toto etc) and headed for the IR site because a friend at home told me that's the firing site (thanks to whoever posted the location on CS, that's where my home-based informer got the info). Managed to setup about 3 minutes BEFORE the actual firing sequence, and both Actionman and myself shot in the prone without support position because we did not have tripods. The shooting was actually easy, just aga-ration of metering, but getting to the firing site was the tiring part. If another person were to be with me instead of Actionman, some might just be totally convinced I'm nuts to take such a big risk. This was because we walked all the way (more like fast-marched from the Tanjong Pagar Food Centre, all the way to our shooting site. Some people would not want to break into a sweat before shooting etc, but Yoda (no, I'm not a Star Wars fan) said that simple term that I now work by - "Do or do not, there is no try." Either I get to the site, or I don't - I chose to move on. After this trying experience, I do believe I found a very good kaki to shoot with.
Once again, thanks to the CS folks who posted up the firing site info. That was the key to everything.
