River HongBao returns to mouth of Singapore River
The Singapore River HongBao will be held at a new venue when it turns 20 next year.
To mark the milestone, organisers are moving the event from the Marina Promenade back to its starting point -- the mouth of Singapore River.
To usher in the Year of the Dog, some 2.6 hectare of the Esplanade Park, near the historic Padang, will be transformed into a fairyland of lights and colours.
A five-storey high God of Fortune, and mythical icons from Chinese legends will greet visitors at the entrance.
And for the first time, there will be three- to five-minute fireworks displays every night throughout the 17-day carnival.
Besides song and acrobatic performances, there will be nightly parades of mini floats and folk dances.
Visitors can also feast on delicacies from Chongqing and Sichuan.
Singapore River HongBao kicks off on January 27.
