Finally gotten my K-x

Don't play, play with silica gel... :o

Silica gel is non-toxic, non-flammable and chemically unreactive. However, some of the beads may be doped with a moisture indicator, such as cobalt(II) chloride, which is toxic and may be carcinogenic.
Cobalt (II) chloride is deep blue when dry (anhydrous) and pink when moist (hydrated). Crystalline silica dust can cause silicosis.

Bottomline, just buy a small electric dry box...

Wikipedia has a longer version of the last sentence which is less ominous:

Crystalline silica dust can cause silicosis but synthetic amorphous silica gel is non-friable, and so does not cause silicosis.

But I agree, why bother with silica gel and have to worry about all these, for something as long term as keeping all your photography gear, just get a dry cabinet.

For those who die die want to go the silica gel way but are scared of carcinogens, can consider orange silica gel (clear when dry, orange when moist). Disclaimer: At least that's what some companies are marketing now as a safe alternative. If some years down the road, they also find something wrong with orange silica gel, don't come looking for me....

I used to heat the pink beads in an old frying pan. Was breathing in the vapours as the process took about 5 min or so. :o Hope its not that potent.
Now happily using a real dry box...:) They are small and cheap and no requirement to reheat or top up!

Based on your sig,its 2 bodies and 3 lenses right?

You can put both bodies and one lens on the first tray. The second tray can fit the other 2 lenses and maybe some accessories? And you have the bottom layer reserved for your LBA:devil:

Last row estimate can put around 4(If all are 70-200 f2.8)-8 lenses(If all are sizes like kit lens or prime lens)

As the thread has been in discussion, there are a number of places to purchase from.

OP@SLS $782
SLR R @Funan $782
TKFOTO@SHAW BEACH RD
Manly@Temple St $782

It seems like the prices are the same no matter where I go (according to the prices shown).
Does the above mentioned shops give good and practical advices? Can PM me which shop should I approach as I am a newbie?

I am still waiting to buy my first DSLR when I am back in Sg.......:)
