Mike : "iA mode" is not really suited for nightshoot, because the camera will choose the "safest" settings to use, and you usually end up with the highest ISO and pretty wide aperture. In this case, switch to "Aperture Priority Mode (A)" and close down the aperture to about f8 - f16 (depending on whether you have a tripod and also, how long you want your shutter to be, and how much movements you want to blur out).

Impressive little camera. Very impressive little camera. Wondering how big their fast lens will be. Or will they point us back to the regular 4/3 lens using the expensive adapter?

Just wonder what's the result if high ISO were to be used under low light condition? Any sample to share?

The second last shot was ISO800. Only the last shot was "traditional" in setting at ISO100...

cool something is brewing indeed. will wait eagerly for oly version. :)

how is the focusing in low light? will it hunt and unable to lock focus like e420?

The small built in focus assist lamp does wonders for the focusing. When turned off, it does focus pretty well, and exhibits PnS camera's focusing (changable to larger area when the small point does not focus well). This does help in the overall focusing.

In my christmas shopping list liao..:bsmilie:

The G1 is a pretty decent camera, but take into consideration that the version with HD video capture will be released next year. Not sure if that would be a new camera version or update, and will there be a difference in prices.

There are also colour options for the G1, which make it less intimidating for street shooting for those who like to shove the camera into people's face on the streets.

Day 3 with the G1 :

Starting to get the hang of the menu and the camera, which is surprisingly a really intuitive menu system to get my head around. Thanks to its owner uncle Mike for letting me to hold on to it a little longer, so this is now going to turn to a "G1 diary" as I get the camera to behave and perform the way I want it to perform.

I am also starting to get used to the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). The downside to the EVF is that in low light situation, the camera has to work hard to keep up. But then again, anyone wanting to shoot in that kind of low light must be a little nuts, because at candlelight level, your shots will hardly have good results (generally speaking, artistic shots notwithstanding).

Here are some photos from Day Three :

It looks like quite a good lens, considering that there is no Leica label on it.

The reviews I've seen have put the camera in the typical four-thirds category--Promising.

The shots you've taken seem to me as if they're better than typical shots from an E-420 or E-520, though. Perhaps, Olympus should switch to Panasonic's image processor for their consumer models. (Yes, I did say that.)

The price seems a bit steep, as though they're trying to recover all their R&D costs quickly. Hopefully, this might convince others to join the group, though, and enter a market segment that they've never tried.

Definitely promising. Colours look good. :)

Would love to see the Olympus version of m4/3.

Other than my complain about the lens could be faster, but performance of the lens does not disappoint at all. Really it doesn't. Even CA control is up there with the Zuiko lenses. It performs slightly better than Standard Grade and slightly below the High Grade lenses. That is pretty impressive actually.

Bro, are all the photos taken handheld? Is the noise nice?

I hardly use tripods, maybe monopods, so no, no tripod were used in the shots.

The noise... it feels weird actually... not used to it. So don't know how to mix with the additional noise with Photoshop... must spend a little more time to get used to it... a little too clean for my liking... that is quite a turn off about the G1. But for the sake of "public consumption, I am not tweaking the camera too much so that the masses can see for themselves what is the resolution power of this camera.

Cheers.

hmm will it be possible for you to take high iso samples at 100% crop? wanna see how G1 deals with noise. this cam performs pretty well with nice colors!

The shots on the bikes were shot at ISO800. Cheers.
