Mike : "iA mode" is not really suited for nightshoot, because the camera will choose the "safest" settings to use, and you usually end up with the highest ISO and pretty wide aperture. In this case, switch to "Aperture Priority Mode (A)" and close down the aperture to about f8 - f16 (depending on whether you have a tripod and also, how long you want your shutter to be, and how much movements you want to blur out).
