Wow, yowch - that's high praise for the F30! A compact standing its ground against a DSLR!
Just curious how does F30 image compare with a DSLR like Canon 350D?
Is there any objective comparison ?

i have both. low ISO, not noticeable. at ISO800, EOS wins.Just curious how does F30 image compare with a DSLR like Canon 350D?

Using the F30 alongside my S2pro, you can almost mix and match the images without realising the two different cams! Only close scrutiny, DoF or flash effects will tell the two apart clearly. As a matter of fact, ISO 1600 on the F30 is better than that on the S2pro.
Yeap, also saw it in the paper today.
I think they maybe launch at $699 to $749
But what I like best about F31fd, have IR connection, I think very useful if u want to transfer to other device such as my PDA![]()
I'm talking about sharing the photo after taken, no need to transfer via computer
The S2pro has pattern noise at ISO1600. Don't forget that the S2pro is 5 years behind the F30 in design! At that time, Nikon D200 starts off with ISO200 because it couldn't get teh noise down to ISO100 standard with lower sensitivity of the sensor!
The cleanness of the images is what really makes the ISO1600 of this consumer pocket point-and-shoot affordable camera a fantastic little thing.
Is the F20 as good as the F30 in ISO performance?
You mean the D100 right?
If so, it's not that they couldn't get the noise down - the 6MP sensor is natively ISO 200...
He he, yes, D100.
Sensor sensitivity (ISO) and noise is inter-related. If you under-power the sensor to have a lower sensitivity, the sensor doe not pick up enough signal to give meaningful image, hence more noise. Similarly, if you over-power up the sensor, such as boosting ISO, you will have signal overloads at times, again, image noise.
The D100 would be great if the noise at sensitivity = ISO100 is acceptable, but it is certainly not so, and Nikon has honourably fixed the lowest ISO to 200, such that the noise is comparable to other cameras/sensors/film at ISO 200.
