I THINK it's only set Aperture and Shutter only lah, won't have MF, Sharpness, Contrast, Exposure Bracketing, Flash Bracketing, Flash Compensation. I think only lah.

That's a chinese F30 review, has several ISO3200 samples as well, which look like they can make it for 4R printing.

So it doesn't even allow the user to set the shutter speed?

I wondering what's so difficult about adding abit more manual controls to please the user...afterall some F30 users will not be novices.

Uhh... Maybe because "Night Scene" mode is meant for novices and too many manual options in this mode will only confuse novices?

There is a shutter priority mode for those who like to set shutter speed, with the camera determining the aperture.

i agreet that too many manual functions will put some simple point&shooters off.

Imagine having tonnes of functions and the manual that comes with it is 300pgs thick.

Fuji seems to be targetting a different market.

But I was thinking if they gave Tv and Av, they might as well just give all the manual controls since someone who uses Av and Tv would most probably know all about shutter and aperture and at least what not to mess if he were using full manual mode...

:nono: not entirely true, my friend bought a Canon A-series and switched to full Manual mode and complained that the pictures coming out sux.. either over or under exposed and he therefore deemed it a lousy cam. His mentality was that the cam is supposed to correct his mistakes. So giving M with ability to adjust on +/-ev (I rather call it P mode) would be a better bet to safe guard their reputation against novices.

Turning the tables, majority who buys a P&S would have basically little or no knowledge to fiddle with 'advanced' full manual controls anyway. That said.. I too wished for a compact like this to offer full manual control with AE-L :embrass:

Oh yah! You're right! It's the reputation at stake haha.

M functions reserved for F31
same pattern as F10 and F11...
;p

oh man..tt sounds scary to me..reali dun wan the feelg of being cheated if they reali launch smthg called the F31 shortly after i get my F30...!! :(

Don't think a guy buying a F30 will be carrying a light meter. Which means that the camera should first have a live histogram before the M mode is really useful.

If the wish is to lock the exposure, an AE-L button will be good enough--but that's another button that a novice is bound to accidently press and wonder why the camera expose the pictures "wrongly".

F30 with shutter & aperture priority.
F31 with true manual controls maybe.

FYI - My old Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1 upgrade to FZ2 through firmware upgrade with added shutter & aperture priority control last time from their website.

that is what I'd like to see fuji doing.

So it means it's so simple to update the firmware for more manual controls....anyway the ixus series also have AEL and AFL leh.

Someone from Japan is selling this camera at this price,£400.00 at ebay.co.uk. So X !!

Actually M mode is mostly used for more artistic expressions by deliberately over or under exposing. With the built in meters being far advanced than what we were used to 10-15 years ago, there's little need for P&S to have M modes. Especially when the bulk of users would just be doing P&S. Manufacturers would rather put in other modes, in an effort to attract more P&S buyers, than the odd pro or semi pro user.

theres some truth to that,, but there are also times, when the light situation is such that a camera's built in meter just cannnot get the exposure right...and thats when its nice to have the ability to adjust shutter/aperture

For a night scene, what is a proper exposure? To expose all the buildings, or exactly what the eyes see(which could be VERY black), or to make sure that the lights of the buildings are not overblown?

i would expose the buildings and blow out the sign boards.. if you want to preserve everything then you got to do several exposures for different interests and PS them together for a HDR look.
