theres some truth to that,, but there are also times, when the light situation is such that a camera's built in meter just cannnot get the exposure right...and thats when its nice to have the ability to adjust shutter/aperture

Like I said, the multi metering in cameras today are quite accurate. In the worst situation, you still have EV to play with. ;)

For a night scene, what is a proper exposure? To expose all the buildings, or exactly what the eyes see(which could be VERY black), or to make sure that the lights of the buildings are not overblown?

This chap's night scenes using F11 are quite ok. It all depends on your preference. The link I've attached is his most recent post using the F30. http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1012&thread=18587520

If you ask me, I think the NR on the F30 is too agressive and not to my liking. If they don't quickly come out with an improved F31, very likely the other manufacturers would catch up fairly quickly on FujiFilm's slim lead. IMO.

I totally agree... the samples I have seen online shows that the F30 has exceeded the F11 in terms of low noise high ISO and the bonus of ISO3200 but the what happen to all the details? All the images from ISO800 onwards look like they have been heavily processed by a noise removal software and looks like watercolour painting to me.

Just got my very first Fuji camera and it's F30! Got it during my last week trip to Japan. Paid around 750 SGD, with 1GB, leather casing, and 1 original Fuji spare battery. Still play around with it, but I'm already very impressed with its image quality, both on daylight or low light. At ISO 1600 still quite clean. Battery life is extremely long, finished my 1 GB (350 shots + videos) but still no need to charge.

Any F30 daylight's shoot! Hope the issue with vertical banding & purple fringing are minimised too.

In very bright condition, didn't see any vertical banding/vignetting

If got time, will upload ISO 1600 and 3200 tonite

Looks good. Can post a 100% crop of the Snoopy's picture? The section right below Snoopy's car would be nice. Thanks. :)

Can the sensitivity (ISO) be adjusted in AUTO mode in F30 or will the ISO be automatically set by the camera? Thks

In Auto mode, ISO is set by camera. If you off the flash, camera doesn't hesitate to pump up the ISO to 800 in normal indoor lighting. But noise at ISO 800 is superb.

Upload some pics

The Snoopy, cropped 200%, auto mode ISO 800

Cropped 100%

ISO 1600, shutter priority, 1/30 sec, f/3.2

ISO 1600 Crop 100%

ISO 3200, crop 100%

Conclusion:
flash off, up to ISO 800 superb. ISO 1600 and above needs post processing.

Thanks for your posts. You are right, up to ISO800, the pictures are superb. But above that, the pictures look very heavily processed. Suspect if you process any further, halos will appear all over the place. But they look perfectly usable for the web. Don't know about blowing up to at least 8R or 11R though...

hi, thanks for posting the great samples, especially the 100% crops, can you crop in the shadow areas to let us see how noise is being handled in those areas? these are usually more problematic in terms of noise.

just heard from a shop that F30 will be out next week.

F11 is already discontinued???
