Seems like the F50fd got better pictures. It also at least have Ap and Sp modes, think the F50fd might be a better buy at a cheaper price...

I think everything goes down to its low light ability whether it can be better than the famed F31 and better than F50.

Hopefully swhyge can share his findings with us.

The low light camera with underwater housing which is available next month.

I am doing the test now as I write; I am testing vis-a-vis my other fuji F30, just a model before F31. I will tabulate my assessment when finish.

If someone can give a place to upload, I will upload the the unprocessed images for you all to make own conclusion.

My test:

Subject: a small teddy (freebie from HP), sitting on a black velvet background.
Mount on Tripod.

Conditions:

1 Under low light (tonight)

A NO Flash - shoot at ISO 100/200/400/800/1600/3200
will leave everything else AUTO

B With Flash - repeat

2 With ample ambient light (got to do tommorrow)

Repeat above (may have to make some provision for high iso)

(Reason for above: I notice during my trial shot, the IQ for ISO varies much depending of the shuttle speed)

For those thinking of getting the F100fd, I just picked up a set today at John 3:16 in Funan. $490 inclusive of GST, case and one 4gb SD card instead of two 2gb cards.

What the difference in prices between 2g and 4g sd cards? Most places F100fd can get at $490.

My Test conclusion:

1. No need for tabulation:

2. For noise (and also IQ, without detailed 100% eval):

Upto ISO 400: - neck to neck
ISO 800: - F30 start to shine
ISO 1600-3200: - F30 clear winner.

3. Yes, also got the pinkish issue (on the left side)

4. Vignette and barrel distort at wide angle.

from what I read:

F31 should shine much better:
& I think F50fd can't be better F100fd. & latter being latest, should have address some issues of the former.

What's the point of shooting at high iSO, and yet get the pinkish band on the left side? Obvious a defect that was overlooked. :(

Then i would prefer a 4gb card to 2 x 2gb card loh.

Yeah, was quite glad I had the choice between a 4gb card or two 2gb cards. Having a 4gb card is definitely more convenient. Unfortunately the black version has the pinkish band as well, but I guess that's something I can live with considering the performance of the camera at higher ISO. Might not be of the same standard of the F31d, but its sure better than other current cameras.

"It seems now all F100FD has been remove from shelves. I overheard that the bigger electronic shops in Hong Kong were told to remove the item from their shelves by the distributor. Hopefully it's because of this. Watch this space!"

"When I take movie with F100fd using Transcend 8GB SDHC, sometimes it caused "Write Error", you are required to re-insert the memory card several times to make it resume normal. Sometimes it corrupts the card's file system, then you cannot re-format it with F100fd, even PC can't recognize it. I gotta re-format it by another camera, I used Ricoh GRII to re-format it, it works.
I tried to take movie with a 2GB SD, it doesn't has such problem. Anyone has similar problem?"

Looks like best not to get the F100 yet with the pinkish line issue.

Also looks like the test conducted by swhyge that the F31 and even F30 are still the leaders in ability to shoot at low light.

We should just wait and hear more from those who already have the camera on tis performance.

the close up of the girls face looks pp to me or maybe she is wearing super thick comestics ! True tests comes from the shots normal users shoot, then we can see its real ability

It is possible to get a in-camera function to do the face smoothening. It is in one of the shooting modes. But with ample light, most campact nowadays can take very decent picture, if not better this that shown - this cam, IMHO, should be assessed for its low light capability - which is supposed to be its selling point. Else I would have got others, which has much better asthetics design, etc...

The camera is still outstanding with all these innovative features... find it funny when she says "zhu pa bian gong zu"... hahaha...

So this P&S is a worthy buy?

I am gonna get a P&S soon just wondering should get the F50fd or this F100fd.... Or go the Powershot way.

hows compare to ricoh r8 VS F50 and f100?

I have seen a page that compares to Ricoh R8. In low light, this Fuji is a clear winner. The Ricoh R8 pixs looks terrible at 100%.
