Eyepiece Magnifier: Where to Buy?

Yes, this thing blocked the eye sensor on A550.
Ahoy!

The Sony FDA-ME1AM is primarily designed for the DSLR A850/A900 models which it fits perfectly and doesn't cover the rear eye start sensors, and although it will fit other models, you'll likely have to turn off the eye start sensor (DSLR/SLT) as they'll be partially covered if the eye cup is fully fitted. There's nothing wrong with the product as it's a simple case of it being used on a model it wasn't primarily designed for.

As for only a small increase in the viewfinder magnification, it states in the product title that it's 1.15x, so a .15x magnification increase, and on the A850/A900 you don't need to move your eye around to see the corners and the data is easier to read. In addition, you get an extra 7mm distance between the eye cup rubber and the rear LCD, so you don't bend your nose so much plus it's more comfortable to use, stops stray light from entering between the eye and the rubber eye cup and is easier for anyone who wears glasses, though it would be better to remove them and adjust the dioptre as glasses usually aren't designed to focus at such a small distance.

Don't say that the product is no good because it is when it's used on the correct model camera, and you can find the Sony compatibility chart here.
