extra image(lighting) for night short

Hi all ,

Super new-bird here, just got a d70 and 50mmf1.8, but i notice sometime i got this extra image when taken at certain angle(night short). i thought i made a mistake tried again from my window, and can even see the extra lighting thru the view finder. Never seems to have this problem with my kid lens(18-70, F3.5). Any clue...or had this been discuss many times?

Right at the beginning of this sub-forum got the guideline, stciked there for you to read.

After reading, post the image so that we know exactly what you are referring to.

If you are shooting directly at the light source, I guess that is the ghosting effect. 50mm is just a normal piece of flass.

Try use a lens hood or try taking in another angle...Hop this help...

My bet is that you using an uncoated uv filter? try using a coated (both sides) uv filter. Try another pic without any filter. The ghost should be busted.

If it still ghosts up.. I can't think of any other reason.

I doubt lens hood will reduce or prevent ghosting.

well, i use the hoya uv filter <UV-guard>..$10 only, maybe no both side coated, which filter i should get?

first take another picture without the filter to see if the extra image is still there.

If you're using a $10 filter, yep, that's probably the cause. Cheap filters protect the lense at the expense of picture quality... not something you'd want.

Well, from what I see in this forum, ppl are buying rather expensive lenses, and the whole idea is to get great picture quality... then then putting a cheap filter in front of it? :dunno:
