so sad for you DeWei, only ellery understand your simple question.
i think you are right... it is so easy to Ot.... i almost OT hahaha

in anycase, fully support sb800:thumbsup:   ... else sb600:thumbsup:

reasons for supporting these two speedlights can be found everywhere... no need for us to explain:)

Get the SB600 lah! Only $300+ right?
It's more affordable than SB800 and it still allows you to shoot wireless flash with automatic exposure control. If you buy other brand or other models, you have to adjust alot to get satisfactory results. Wireless flash with iTTL is really fun. Why don't you try someone's before you buy. I can even meet up and let you try my SB800. You are wasting the D70 if you don't use CLS.
Don't waste time and money on other flashes lah!

Hi all, other than SB-600 and SB-800, what else external flash can be used on D70, can those old flashs like SB-26 and SB-28 compatible?

Like others said, only SB-800 and SB-600 can do i-TTL with D70.

SB-800, 80DX, 28DX, 28, 27 and 22s can do non-TTL auto on D70

SB-26 may not be compatible, maybe due to voltage difference, hope someone else can answer your question. :)

I have used the SB-28 and two SB-26 with a D70 for bounced and wireless flash. It works, even for photographing children moving around in a room. However, you basically have to set your preferred exposure ratios up front and not change your lens aperture as you shoot. If you do change your lens aperture, then you'll need to repeat the setting of your exposure ratios.

If you are going to - buy - a flash for general use (e.g. shooting in a changing environment), I'd recommend getting either the SB-600 or SB-800. Either SB-28 or SB-26 are useable but you will feel the inconvenience if you need to change lens aperture during the shoot or the lighting condition changes.

I use the old speedlights simply because I already have them. The SB-26 even does wireless flash with the new Coolpix P4! That's Nikon system compatibility for you.

Just another post to point out that I have used the SB-26 directly on a D70 in Auto mode as well.

When you set the ISO and aperture up nicely, there's no difference in exposure between SB-800 and SB-26 or any other speedlight, for that matter.

The main advantage of i-TTL (or TTL for old film+speedlights) was the speed and automatic exposure calculation due to the speedlight and camera being aware of each other's settings as well as the lens settings (e.g. D lens communicate distance information).

In Auto mode, it's basically down to the photographer to change the speedlight setting everytime the camera setting changes... and reviewing the exposure before adjusting the speedlight settings again.

Pardon my ignorance. ;p Do you mean the built in flash for D70 is not sufficient?

I used to use a SB-28 on the d70. No doubt it could produce beautiful photos. It really ate up the battery. Had to use a battery pack with the flash if i wanted to shoot events. Without the pack about 80 shots your battery is crying for help. Now i'm using the SB-600 and its good too. It does the job just as well. Only sad part is that it can't use external batteries.

Why dun u consider the Sigma EF-500 DG SUPER ?
Quite a good flash unit for its price.
newbie here. can a sigma flashgun (main) be used as wireless remote commander for nikon sb600 (slaves), and vice versa?

does it (sigma) come with other attachments when purchased? say those reflector/diffuser thing?

I think the answer is quite clear. SB800 is the way to go. You may think its 200 -300 more expensive but think of it as a long term investment. A number of friends used a SB600 and upgrade to a SB800 after sometime as they find the limits of SB600.

I dun think the sigma come with other attachment like the sb800 does.

Thanks for the wonderful replies from those guys who are really paying attention to my question. I think I will go for SB-800 very soon so that I will not upgrade it in the near future. Now I realized that the i-TTL function is really important to me since I do not want to do manual setting on my flash each time I change my aperture or ISO etc..

You will not go wrong with this decision.

Cheers

I tend to use the built in flash only as a emergency as the output is not as good and even as an external flash unit.

You are also not able to bounce the output against a ceiling or a wall to diffuse the harsh flash effect too. But there is a product meant to diffuse the built in flashes. Wonders if anyone tried that out yet?

After you get yourself a beautiful SB-800, you can try to DIY a lightsphere. Although mine was a failed experiment when i tried. So i bought the real thing as it was much more presentable. It brings out the potential of your flash unit. ;)
