Lexar Media lowers CompactFlash prices

5 February 3:15 PM MT - Lexar Media joins Sandisk this week in dramatically reducing the cost of higher-capacity CompactFlash cards, including the 256MB 12X and 512MB 12X High Speed Series and 256MB 24X WA, 512MB 24X WA and 1GB 16X Professional Series models. While dealers are responsible for determining what they charge for Lexar's products, Lexar expects US street prices to be approximately as shown in the table below:

Lexar CompactFlash model with Expected street price,$US

256MB 24X WA Professional Series US$120
512MB 24X WA Professional Series US$220
1GB 16X Professional Series US$350
256MB 12X High Speed Series US$95
512MB 12X High Speed Series US$175

As always, check with your favourite pro retailer to determine what the actual selling price is for Lexar and other brands of CompactFlash media.

Sandisk CompactFlash prices plummet

4 February 3:30 PM MT (updated) - Sandisk yesterday began informing dealers in both North America and other regions of a major price drop on higher-capacity Sandisk CompactFlash cards. Most or all of Sandisk's 256MB and higher CompactFlash lineup is affected, including the company's higher-performing Ultra series. For instance, the 512MB Ultra CompactFlash card drops from a US suggested list price of US$320 to US$200, a price reduction of about 38% (the actual selling price is set by the dealer, and is often somewhat less than the suggested list price). As a major player in the CompactFlash arena, Sandisk pricing moves like this put pressure on all the leading CompactFlash vendors to follow suit.

Yipee!!! Just when I'm planning to buy a 512MB CF!!!
Can someone post the price of a 512MB RiData CF now so that we can compare it when it drops??

RiData 512MB CF is around S$285.00...

Saw this afternoon at SLS, the Transcend 1GB 30X CF is S$790.00...

Thread moved to Consumers Corner.

Here's a link to the simlim online pricelist... no RiData there but I'm tracking Transcend as a price indicator

http://www.hardwarezone.com/priceguide/pricelist.hwz?countryid=1&cid=118&by=nameup&sa=0&pg=7

Here's the direct link to one of the graphs
TRANSCEND Ultra Performance 25x Compact Flash 512MB Card (CF)
http://www.hardwarezone.com/priceguide/pricetrends.hwz?pid=5899&cid=173

The current update shows S$319 as at 22/01/2003

Guys, for those you intend to purchase the Transcend 512MB CF, the current speed is 30X, no longer 25X...

Saw the latest last afternoon...

And AP is selling it at $280 liao from yesterday! I think the $319 is from other shops in 4th floor.

I read that at Amazon u could get 512MB Scandisk CF for US$89 after rebate of US$40.

That works out to S$155?;)

Cool! Than I can buy more!! :P

HI, my 2 cent worth, hope may be of use. Subjected to change and personal opinions.

I used to be working for a local distributor of flash memory who supplied to sim lim / funan / other areas inc orchard, so just some inside information I know. PM me if you want to know respective distributors for respective brands.
Now just quitted my job and helping my former boss to push memory Check out my MO page.

Yes CF card prices are going down for one major reason. All of us at Supplier level have to "sweat" to provide more competitive prices to stores, for Toshiba Hagiwara is sweeping the market by storm, giving retailers very cheap price and yet very good quality.

By "theory" Hagiwara (child company of Toshiba) authorised distributor is Hexon / NCP
Somehow along the way, a store level 6 in sim lim (better not mention to protect forum) managed to directly get from Japan directly and just swept the market. CP tried doing that for a while and evey more POWERFUL/kamikaze, luckily did not receive stocks or permission from toshiba to sell, so still managed to get market control.

Popular brands are Ritek Ridata, PQI, Hagiwara, Alpha, Transcend, VM san disk, APD IODATA, etc. maybe chap pa lang brands include eagle tec, edata, digilife, nplus, etc.

IODATA also very interesting story, pm for details. The supplier line very interesting as you see, some of them "joining forces" others I "attack" you behind.. =)

regards,

Wah, very good insider story. Please do PM me for the rest of your sotry!!! Thanks.
