If your friend wants to exhibit for the sake of exhibiting, try renting a shophouse/store for the period of the exhibition.

Since your friend is so eager to give them away, why not put up "adoption" ads here on CS? In fact, if he were to put them on BnS, i'm sure there would be some level of interest as there are a sizable number of collectors here as well. Certainly it's better than just giving them away.

I'm trying to find ways to help a friend of mine whom have a pretty large collection of cameras (over 300 pieces) many of which are in good conditions and mostly still usable. The collection range is pretty wide. I'm waiting for more details of his collection from him.

Anyone knows where/ who I can approach about this?

My friend mentioned that he approached the Singapore Museum but they declined his donations of cameras. But I don't think he has any wish to donate to others now. Just want to help him showcase his collections.

Also trying to see the responds of photogs here... if there's this exhibition, would you attend? And if yes, would you pay to attend?

If his cameras are good, I prefer he sells some of them to me.
I am not looking for FOC from him.
Personally I prefer to pay and not be obligated. If he is loaded already, then I can donate the agreed sum to his charity choice. No need to worry that I would not do so after collecting his camera. We believe in retribution, so don't muck around with such promises.

Thank you all for the suggestions and comments. I will try to contact the few places mentioned and also thanks to those who PM-ed me. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I believe there are many collectors here in CS who are interested in taking a look at what he has....

My friend will be giving me some of the photos he took, and I'm also trying to arrange a day to drop by his place for a "camera-shoot-camera" session. As he needs time to unpack them from their well-protected boxes etc, and display them nicely in shelves... this might take a while.

If he's ok with my suggestion, I will open up the session to CSers here. But this is pending for his approval and most probably will only allow about another couple or so ppl to tag along.

More details will be up soon.

Yeah. If he's willing to let go of some cameras at non-profit price, I'm sure many CS-ers are willing to adopt.
For me, I've been looking and am still looking for a 2nd body to backup my "just-revived-but-now-cranky" Pentax K1000... :|
Steven recommended ME Super to me which I think is a good choice too...
But that's not for discussion on this thread.... :p

Giving them away is so generous, i'm sure they have some value & ppl will be willing to buy them... ;)

Give them to me! :)

you can try working something out with the clubs or the magazines
I am sure that they will be interested.

Got hold of some photos of some of the cameras he has... haven't got time to scan them yet, but i think if I can go down to snap them again would be better.

Here's some of the cameras with photos (for now)...
  1. minolta-16
  2. Konica Autorex
  3. Contax
  4. Rollei 35 LED
  5. Agfa Synchro Box
  6. Robot
  7. KNEB.19
  8. Hexacon ZI
  9. Canon A-1
  10. Canon AL-1
  11. Nikon EL
  12. Leicaflex
  13. Widelux F7

Erm... I'll try to find time to scan the photos to match the cameras listed, personally I've never heard/ seen many of them, but well, I'm new to these things... so please pardon me for my limited knowledge of these cameras. I'm slowly picking up. :)

I think by sharing this information with many of us here you are already doing a great job  I think if possible you take photos of those cameras using your digital cam, can save you a lot of time scanning. If you need any help, I guess there will be lots of volunteers here who can help. :bsmilie:

While I am still waiting for more information and photos from the owner of all these cameras, here are some pics that he had passed to me last week but I only managed to squeeze time today to get them scanned.

Some of you have PMed me regarding the photoshoot of these cameras, I will get back to you once I make the arrangements and also the owner's permission. Thanks for showing interests in these cameras.

If want to have an exhibition, your friend will have to do research on the camera,a simple write up and also includes the year of manufacturer and what model or series...e.g. type 1, type II..etc.,and a sample of a photo "shot" by that camera. Show their rarity or scarcity.

Look for a place in a shopping centre and security is a must. Someone mentioned the stamp museum, I don't think they have the space. I know the outlay very well because I was the Chairman for the Singpex '03 & '04. The latest Singpex '05 exhibition venue was at Chinatown Point. When exhibits are opened to the public, care must be taken and the whole exhibits must be insured.

It would be interesting if someone comes out with specialised camera collection relating to one manufacturer only, like ...Nikon , Canon , Asahi Pentax , Rollei , Kodak...etc., and including all the different types of lenses manufactured by the specific Company throughout the years.

From the pictures I see, the cameras are nothing "great" to shout about it.:( Sorry if I sounded "strong" but one must face reality, some people will say that the older an item, the rarer it is, not true. But anyway, if your friend can show that to the public, it will benefit the public.

My support for him:thumbsup:

does he have a working large format monorail camera? if yes can he sell it to me? pls......if not then thx.. just asking.;p

Nice.. keep us informed on the exhibition details. Those cameras.. aww... don't get to see them since the day I was born.

Been very busy at work for the camera owners and myself. No time to really sit down and go through details and start planning yet.

Updates will probably come much later. Hopefully by November. In the mean time, if anyone has good resources or direct contact to personnel from organisation that'll be interested in co-funding/ sponsoring/ any of these sort for an exhibition for these cameras, please pm me.

Thanks! :)

Does he have plenty of Canon cameras? Maybe able to get Canon to sponsor or co-sponsor. Best if in return of the sponsorship, there's an avenue for them to do marketing there. ;)

Aren't sure of that. But I guess its variety of brand/ model/ make. Will be having a photo session at his place in November. Will update with more details.

Thanks. :)

Camera owner is opening his house for visits next week. All his 300 over cameras will be on displayed.

If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you his mobile number. I'm busy with work so can't coordinate this... will try my best to help link up those interested with him.

Thanks.
