hi all...
got a question regarding the batt.
if the battery in the battery pack left with 0%, will the battery supply be automatically cut in to the camera's batt?
or do i have to manually change it?

thanks.

I am very happy with my D300. Great camera !! However, I am very disappointed with the Nikon Service Centre. They have the habit of not picking up call. And if you are lucky to be served, the lady on the other receiving end sounded like half asleep and unwelcome.

Recently, I brought my D300 down to the service centre for servicing as there is a dust spot that I could not clean it off. After cleaning the sensor twice a senior technician told me that the dust could not be removed as it was accumulated between the filter and sensor. I find it absurd.

Anyway, I have written in to Nikon Singapore insisting them to do something about it, as I bought it for only 2 months and under warranty. But this type of service is something we user would not want to face.

On top of the above experience, I happened to be visiting the Nikon Show room. And this show room staff seemed so agitated explaining to an old man about FX and DX. We kept on repeating “This is FX FX FX FX FX FX and this D300 is DX DX DX DX DX DX..you understand ? FX FX FX FX FX & DX DX DX DX DX.” He was so fierce.

Anyway this is some experience that I encountered. But D300 is really good…superb camera and deserves a better service. I hope the price would drop some more so that I can buy a second body.

wow, this is bad, so far i have only good experiences with Nikon svc center.

It will automatically switch to use the battery in the camera body.

I have been told this before when i send my D70s for cleaning. Something about being trapped between the highpass filter and the sensor of which my friend told me its not possible unless i open it up for IR DIY stuff....which I never did.

Nevertheless, I am still a hardcore Nikonian. =p

Hey Randius,

Are you previously a SONY user?

Why do you say so? Is the camera not supposed to use battery in body once battery in battery grip is drained if it has been configured to use battery in MB-D10 first?

Randius, you are right. If you set the battery in MBD10 to be used first, it will drain out and automatically without glitch or pause changed to be supplied by the battery in body. Just had first hand experience today. Was shooting lots of pictures till its like about 1% (about 900+ shots!) and started reviewing shots intensively and editing in camera. eventually, check the drainage and found that the battery has switched to in body one and no jam or any software stoppage occured! Pardon my happiness as its the first time i have a camera with grio and am very happy. My D70s previously did not have an option. =)

Hi Randius,

My question is just off the topic. Because I think you have a different signature now and I will like to welcome you on board if you have jumped ;)

Scare me sia, thought I said something wrong ;p I did jump but from a D200 (no jumping ship), couldn't resist the temptation to upgrade ;)

Hi, just to share, many D300 users including myself have problems with the batt pack. Its likely to be a firm ware problem.

For me, the D300 suffice. All i ever needed was the 3 inch screen and low CA. The D300 is ok for both. I am happy the way my pictures turned out and i could never ever go back to D80...

As for NSC service... what can i say, i expect more from them. For starters, i hope they can stay open to 7.30 pm at least as most of us are working...

Be glad they're open during lunchtime. I work in AMK and went during lunchtime to send my lens in and collect it when it was done.

I love the results on my D300 but the body glitches on it piss me off to no end.
Mind you i'm a very heavy user..

1)The hanging is not so bad, sometimes i can't review pics, happens very seldom, simple off/on solves that.

2)The battery contact issue (no battery detected even with grip and batt in) wasn't completely solved by the firmware upgrade. Its a pain in the arse, showing up at crucial moments. Have to take out the batt pack or on/off to start it up again, while despairingly watching the picture move past. not funny.

3)The lens contacts in the mount. This one is the best. It can't detect my older lenses at all.
Only G-mount lenses can be detected. My AFS 80-200 has to be used like a toilet roll- press to lens mount (don't lock) just hold manually focus and trigger. I can't work like this. The body is going for servicing along with a piece of my mind.

4)I just think the color is too yellow and too saturated on default standard. However the Nikon D2XS color mode fixes this wonderfully.

So far though I don't think the 3rd problem has been reported anywhere else. No one else seems to have the same issue. Its a great camera... I'm not happy with the reliability of mine.

I think you should send it in. May be a lemon you got.. I have no problems with mine.

Everyone seems to be so excited about the launch of video-capable D90 that did anyone noticed Nikon's own GPS unit - GP-1 will be released for D90 but may be compatible with D300, D700 and D3.

I am interested in getting it if it performs the same or better than the currenct third-party devices, and hopefully with a reasonable price tag.

anyone has backlight leaking?
will nikon do something bout it?

Hi all,

for me after 1 month I'm not happy at all. Moving from D200 to D300 is like entering a nightmare.
Focus issue on all my lenses and grainy background even with my favoured 105VR macro!
I tried with AF and manual focus but the results are really discouraging.:(

Just learn about the Focus fine tune, let see if I can get something better.

Happy except for too much clipping in the red channel;(

hello,

Wondering if you guys tested hot pixels on brand new D300?
Is it common?
What is considered acceptable?
I got mine 3days ago. At ISO200, 30s, lens cap on test, I saw about 3-4. One is bright, the other 3 are small and dim. Is it justifiable for exchange?

Thank you in advanced for any advices. :)

nope not normal, i use to have D300, it had none, my friends had none. if i were you i will exchange it. cheers!

I had the 3rd problem with my D300, it had no problem at 1st until 3 weeks back when i put on my 80-200 suddenly it can't focus anymore.
Well, I send in for servicing, will be collecting it tomorrow.
Let me check with NSC what is the causes of this problem, see if they could find the cause.

Boy, I miss my D300 so much .... arrrr....
Thank God, I got a D200 as back-up.... :)
