Event company made big money..you photographs should earn peanuts...ha ha ha

Im a newbie and here is my comments:
(no hard feelings pls.. tis is a blog anyway and everyone can have watever opinions)

(1) To the originator of the post: If your friends are looking for photographers, most probably they are taking up projects and only sub-contracting this part out. If that is the case, it is very unprofessional for them to provide such budget for photographers, and let their customers take the risk of mediocre photography results. I am a marketer, if I know of such company I work with, I believe that would be the end of my relationship with that company and I will not hesitate to spread words around my network to be careful.

(2) To newbies, it is not a matter of passion here, it is just a matter of being exploited. Wat's more, being employed, are you certain you can produce result? I think so long as you are paid, be it $5 or $500 dollars, we should feel the responsibility to produce, if not the passion in the first place is quite worthless?

(3) To newbies, most probably you might not know the market rate of professionals, but day shoot is easily $150/hr with night shoots double of that. (Maybe some professionals here can verify) $5?? :nono:

The consequence of spoiling the market, would be that standards of creativity will just remain stagnant or even go down the drain. Just like what piracy did to the HongKong movie market.

peace

But sometimes it makes me wonder when Canon or Nikon organize an event with a photo contest, most will be rushing to take part.:bsmilie:

What did you get in return ?

A t-shirt ,some freebies ,a bottle of water and a chance to win.
No pay, own equipment, own food and the photos submitted belongs to the organizer.

Just my 2cents thought.:dunno:

Don't flame me.:sweatsm:

No offences, just a fun reply.

The diff between a job, being emploied by someone and shooting in a contest is,
when you're on job, you have to take instructions from the boss, you have to produce the goods, you have a respondsibility to the company, there's no such things as a retake ( in most cases ), if you scr*w up the job you scr*w up your reputation.
When you 're shooting for a contest, there's no pressure, no respondsibility, you can walk away anytime you like, and if you son't like it, you can ask the org'er get lost and you just don't submit your shots.

Oh, by the way, if you win in the contest, the prize is better than the pay here :bsmilie:

if he does badly, its not just the reputation of the photog, he would spoil the general public's impression of us photogs

if he does well, he is telling the organisers tat good photogs are only worth peanuts

so its lose-lose to us photogs :dunno:

It is less insulting if the request is for photographers to volunteer. To pay $5/hr is EXPLOITATION.

A word to the stupid and naive. Such shoots will NOT improve your photography but add to your shutter count unnecessarily.

is more than this....

"hey.. we can go to clubsnap to find photographers, there are many cheap and good photographers, and also desperate for shoots...."

This is already happening lar, an event org'er ask me to quote for a job and I told him the job require more than 1 photographer to cover. He said he needs me to be the main photographer to shoot the VIPs and he already got some cheep photographer from CS to shoot for close to free.

what??

cheap and creepy photographers from CS??

is this how people describe photographers are from CS??

i think 5 dollars an hour is not even enough to cover shutter count. transport. mandai is quite inaccessible.

hell even part timers working as technicians at sls earn more than that. and they just stand there. photogs have to stand there. carry heavy equipment. risk back injuries in the long run. AND USE YOUR BRAINS to shoot.

i rather do them a favour and shoot for free. 5/hr can be considered as a token of appreciation.

let us stage a protest by burning our cs polo -
well let's check it out from the given email who is the event organiser

RETURN US OUR DIGNITY!

actually hor me don,t hv any cs polo :embrass:

I think one of this days one of us have to go to the event and inform the BIG BOSS himself that things like this is happen and every one on the forum knows that his company is so cheapskate. His company is only worth $5/- an hour. Maybe that will stop others from coming here to do things like this!!

Sorry, typo error, it should be cheap and not cheep :sweatsm:
