honestly i find the statement in bold a bit rude and insulting.. not fair to have that kind of statement. :)

That wasn't directed to anyone in particular but if you were to offer or to take up a $5 an hour job, I guess you wouldn't loose any sleep over that comment either. I imagine taking up a $5 an hour job to be more insulting but your mileage might vary.

What&

hey, it does not mean that photos done by newbies are bad, dun use your self/skill as the guildline:sticktong
hey if you can produce work that is worth more than $5 an hour, then why take up this job?

i find this job is really for serious newbs, just use PnS la. if use your DSLR and big mama lens half way one of the participants spill water on your equipment, who's responsible? the company? or the participant? or no liability. your day's pay to fix your equipment.

in life, you gotta cover your own backside, otherwise no one will cover for you.

I just saw this one.....

Get this straight. Its a business no matter what. Its not about the skills or experience. If you are someone who command $500 an hour but some how being forced to take $5, will you still be producing $500 an hour shots??? Hell no!!!

it might be just polaroids and P&S lah...

Even for polaroid, I have paid 2 girls a hundred each for a 4 hours event. And they did a fantastic job.

Guess $5 an hour is a "good opportunity" for those who usually do it for free

All the best :)

understood it wasn't aim at anyone but for any newbie to get this kind of remark is quite demoralizing. even a pro have to start as a newbie.:D

$5 an hour is better than free. even if a pro who hasn't got any job for sometime will grab it for survival sake. between ego and empty, i think anybody, regardless pro or newbie will choose to have a full stomach or partly full.:bsmilie:

I don't wish to dwell on that too but its better to know the reality before setting expectations for both photogtapher and organisers. Quality comes with a price tag and $5 an hour is simply unacceptable unless that's not your pay cheque. This is the problem we face in this environment, the value of services is grossly underestimated.

I'd rather not take the job then because it will not put the bread on the table. I even giving my money to the client. $5 an hour job will not surface on the market if we don't take it.

If it comes to that situation he/she is no more a pro nor qualify as a pro :bsmilie: BTW are you speaking as a pro or trying to put yourself in the shoe of a pro

Haven't been to zoo for quite sometime... Free entry!!! :bsmilie: But not free on those days only...

just a newbie... just find the remarks given to newbies quite discouraging. .. like i said .. pro also haveto start as a newbie...:D

Actually no, pros don't start as newbies. There must be certain understanding of how the business is carried out before taking the dive. Knowing how to take photos alone is not enough and I'll rather be "discouraged" as a newbie than knowing it after making the committment. When you have done all the necessary preparation work, you are not considered as a newbie anymore. This is the difference between making a living out of photography and shooting for peanuts.

points taken.:) thanks for the insight.:D

this is my first self expression to club snap. i found out that clubsnap is so amusing.:) i use to come here everyday. sometime, i loged in to check.sometime i dont.

First, i think that i will try to promote myself through clubsnap. Later, I noticed that this is not a good space to promote myself. Because this place is a mixture of professionals, amatures and some professional wannabe.

for amature, they dont really care about anything. they shoot for fun only. So they dont care it is pay or free or few penny. if they get some nice photos and maybe plus some money, they are happy. And use it for fun.

For professional and practicing profesionals, they should respect them selves and their works. That is his or her standard. The pro photographer is the one who live on the earning from photography or more than half of his/her income come from photography. And the other meaning of pro is an expert. There are some respectable good pro and some are not. I never heard or think that 500$/ hour worth good respectable pro will pick up 5$/hour worth job, no matter what. That is really painful for me. All the good pro can manage their business.

Only the pros who are desperate for the job or those who use to get that range will pick up 5$/hour job. but no body cant blame them because they may have their difficulties and reasons.

As I am a practicing professional, I have my own skills and standard. and i only work in my own field or category. i will take a job which suit my range. if someone ask me to shoot events and wedding, I will say hell "No", no matter how much the pay is. They are not in my category.

I noticed that most of the people who try to find photographer in clubsnap are looking for cheap stuff. I think that the people perception to the clubsnap is a good place to find a cheap and free photographers [also something like Win-Win stuff. There is no Win-Win thing in my theory. If the One win, another one will lose.]. I think that is because of all above stated problems.

No one can help it because everyone has their freedom to do whatever they want to do. they may shoot free or less pay or 2k per hour. That is their own choice. Nobody cant help it.

that is my POV for this kind of things and use to stay away from those things.

$5 an hour does sound too low though....

doing it free is really fine.. seriously..
if its for a charity.
for eg. shooting for old folks home or disabled people outings.. kind of stuff.
