Generally the shots are ok. But i think for the last one, i don't like how the merlion faces out of the picture frame. and the horizon for the first two shots seems a little bit tilted :D

btw the 17-70 you got is the old one or the new VC one?

The first 4 photos suffer from tilt issues. 1st and 2nd being the worst. Learn to line up your scene proper. You used a tripod, shouldn't be too difficult.

do your lens dirty ?
:)

are u referring to the spot in #1? i thought it was dirt at first but its actually one of the floating balls in the water.

noted! will find a better angle next time!
its the old version.

thanks! nod nod! i see what you mean! never paid any attention to tilt. to get it correctly, the "ground" should be parallel to the water line right?

bro, where did you get that sigma lens? i been looking high and low for my a550.. some advice pls..

Cool.. now i am pondering btw HSM and non HSM.. maybe u could share with me ur experience when using this lens will the AF be as loud as kit lens? or softer?

Btw i love your photos.. thats really sharp.. mind to share your settings?

mine is an old set it is definitely non hsm. personally, i feel it is louder than the kit lens. not so much when i use autofocus. i find it more "rough" when i manual focus compared to the kit lens.

thanks for encouragement! my settings are all below my shots :)

keepshooting :xmas:

Tilted not only the horizontal line, also the vertical.. can correct it via photoshop distortion correction.

1&2 can be improve, if you are using photoshop... go to filter> distort> lens correction..

I like 3 & 4, clear and sharp.. usually for night shots, is ISO100 the more prefered one as I am not sure why the wordings 'Mandarin Oriental' on my pics are slightly blur.

thanks!

the higher the iso, the grainier the pic. i use iso100 or iso200 most of the time if i use tripod for longer exposure. for handheld shots, iso400 or 800.

i am no expert to explain why "mandarin oriental" is slightly blur. mine is like that too and i couldn't figure out how to get rid of it. however, it only happens for long exposure shots. hence, my logical thinking is it is because of the words are lighted and coupled with the long exposure, it starts to "blur" the outline.

so, what it means to me is my exposure time and aperture control is not good enough to produce a sharp and good shot.

thanks for the tips.. will try it again at lower iso. I am thinking maybe because that my Image Stabalizer is on, thats why i get the blur wordings. I'll try to experiment more when I'm free.
