After visit Bernese Oberland, we proceed to Bern before staying 3 nights at Lausanne.
Bern is a old town which is very small. We took one hour slow walk from one end to another end. The interesting part about Bern is the bears which are kept at the end of the bridge on the opposite side of Bern from the train station.
One legend how Bern got its name is the first Duke decided to name his city from the creature of his first hunt, which is a bear. The truth is after a war in the 14th century, the soldiers brought back a live bear as the war spoils and they built a pit to keep the bear. Since then, it becomes an attraction for the city.

#59 Amazed by the numbers of electric cables in Bern.

#60 The Bern bear, the largest of the four in the newly built pit. This one is separated from the other three and it is also the most active.

#61 Overview of Bern Old Town from the Rose Garden. Should have zoomed in more to exclude the road on the lower right corner. This was taken at about 11am, will believe the view will be more beautiful in the evening or night when the town lights up.

Hi Solou, thanks !! Lucky wife is very understanding. All are snapshots as do not want wife to wait too long (with the exception of the sunrise and sunset shots). Taken thousands but only these few can make it.

Hi jeezuinn, thanks !!

The reason for staying in Lausanne is to visit the Château de Chillon (Montreux), Lavaux Vineyard Terrace as well as Gruyere Cheese Factory and Nestle Chocolate Factory.
Lavaux Vineyard is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The unique point is that the vineards are grown on terraces and the vineyards are preserved since the 11th century.
Château de Chillon is the fame castle in Montreux by the shore of Lake Geneva. The castle was first built in 1005. Lord Byron made this castle famous through his poem, The Prisoner Of Chillon.

#63 Just before we board the tram to visit the Lavaux Vineyard, we stroll along Lake Geneva. The weather was cloudy but luckily managed to catch a glimpse of sunrays through the clouds.

#65 Lavaux Vineyards - it was a 30km stretch of vineyards so we visited Lutry. As we were tired from the hiking done we took a 1 hour tram ride touring the vineyards. But it will be nice to walk around instead.

#68 On the way back after the visit to the cheese and chocolate factory, had to wait again at Broc station. Finally had the time to stop to admire the train station peacefully.

#69 After a fruitless trip down to Geneva on a Sunday when all the shops are closed there, we returned back to our hotel early. Managed to take this sunset before the clouds came in and rained.

amazing series!
one of my 'must-go vacation destinations', thanks for sharing!

After Switzerland, we proceed to France. We were supposed to go to Lyon from Geneva but there was no train (and for the remaining schedules to Lyon) ! Strike by French ! Luckily there was a train going to Paris an hour later. We got on the train to find it was 90% empty; even the restaurant on the train was closed ! Managed to get to Paris and found a hotel for the night. Lucky the train for our trip to Epernay was not affected by the strike.
Epernay was a main trading town for Champagne. Its main street Avenue de Champagne features two leading Champagne manufacturers, Moet & Chandon and Mercier. Of the three day stay there, we had glasses of champagne for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The champagne was really cheap and delicious. Visited the vineyards and they were beautiful.

#70 Visited Moet & Chandon for the tour round their cellar. At the end of the tour, we had the chance to taste their vintage champagne (there are 3 type of tasting, the vintage is the most expensive).

#72 In the cellar, the champagne will be aged for at least 3 years in bottle before release for sale.

After 3 days in Epernay, we took a long journey (1 hr to Paris, 30mins to get from one station to another, and then another 4 hrs by train and bus) to Mont St Michel.
Mont St Michel is a church (a bishop was instructed by Archangel Michel to build the church here) on an island in Normandy. The best time to come is in the late afternoon about 5pm when most of the tourists left and stay for the night. Mont St Michel is its beautiful at sunset.

#74 Grass patch on mainland - there are lots of sheep grazing here.

#78 Mont St Michel in sunset - the reason to come here to view this majesty structure. Meet two other photographers (from Ireland) here and we were chatted while taking the sunset. It was also my first time to see a large format at work.
