Epson R-D1x

Hi,

Any CS member who owns this rangefinder? May I know how much is it? Heard that it's only available exclusively in Japan.

Hi retrovox, I think there was a thread sometime back discussing this. I own an RD1-s model before this and from what I gather, the RD1-x is exactly same as the RD1-s except for 2 "improvements", they fixed the LCD screen (doesnt swivel anymore) and added support for higher capacity SD cards (currently the RD1-s only recoginises a 2GB card) and thats it.

Having said that, it would be very hard to part with my RD-1s for a variety of reasons, primarily, its the only digital RF that mimics b/w film very accurately. High iso handling is also quite excellent (for a camera for its era) And there is something very intuitive about the controls (exactly like an old skool RF). Crop factor is a bit an issue (its 1.5X) only if you are a real gear-head, other than that I really like it. If you already have one, I'd love to see it, if you are thinking of one, I would upgrade only because of the SD card support, but cost-benefit-wise, doesn't make sense. :D

dankwan.. u mean 2GB card :P

Haha yes I meant that, unfortunately long sightedness has reared it's ugly head... Thanks for correction tan131

It is 1.5x crop not 2x crop, right?

This model R-D1x is simply too expensive. To add on, it is not available in SG.
I am a R-D1s (not R-D1x) user and I think it is good enough for me at the moment. R-D1, R-D1s & R-D1x have the same mega pixels.

aiya, really all over the place, yes 1.5X, thanks gohaj, corrected and apologies. Yes its too expensive and no sensor improvements made, so I find it very strange why even launch an "x" with a premium

Hey, thanks for the info. The R-1Dx sure looks very cool. Too bad it's not available locally.

I don't think it's that cool if they 'fixed' the LCD screen. I really like the 'unfixed' version where the screen could be swivel to conceal it for protection and to make the camera look like a real rangefinder to unsuspecting eyes.
