Can u folks pls advise as to which Epson printer gives reasonable/good A3 size output??Being eyeing the Epson 1290. Any user comments appreciated!!

What is your budget? I've been using the 1270 for almost 3 years and I've been satisfied with the prints I get. I run through about 4 to 6 sets of ink cartridges each year as I use them for my presentation work mostly and like the colour production especially when mated with the heavyweight matte paper. My classmate said the prints are "painfully sharp". I wouldn't expect the 1290 to be anything lesser.

However, if you have a bigger budget, i would recommend the 2000p or the new 2100. Both are capable of printing archival quality images. The 2100 has an extra light black for better tone gradation. Sounds interesting.

Went to SLS and the 1290 was abt S$800.

Hmmm...I'm not sure about prices in Singapore. I bought my 1270 in Melbourne for A$815. I was told that the prices of A3 printers in Singapore and Australia don't vary too much as with other printers as the market for A3 printers is relatively small in Singapore. So $800 might sound just right. Maybe a bit of bargaining wouldn't hurt?

I bought my 1290 at SLS below S$800 (I thought S$760) few months back. Extremely satisfied with the output. I highly recommed it to you.

the new 2100 looks good from the spec but price on the high side. I believe in the region of 1200+

If budget is not a problem, get the all new Epson Stylus Photo 2100 with UltraChrome inks. Archival quality prints, and features a new "light black" ink for glorious B&W prints.

Otherwise, a 895/1290 would be very good in the mid range, and 810 in the low end.

The Epson 2100 is retailing for S$1599 - a bit on the steep side considering that US street price is US$699 or less. Give it a couple of months and hopefully the price will come down.

I have been using the Epson 1270 for a couple of years now - excellent printouts but slow. Also, have experienced some fading of prints so the archival quality of the 2100 is starting to appeal.

Also have had some problem with getting ink on the rollers and smearing all over the paper - better now, but really wasted a lot of paper and time in trying to clean up.

Strange, I overheard the sales person quoting $1488 at the recently concluded Nikon road show at PSB leh....

I'm using the 1290-- prints are excellent on photo paper but on plain paper, tend to be wet, smudgy and crinkly. So if you're going to be only printing photos on photo paper it's great, but if you regularly need to print out documents with text and just need to use plain paper, get the HP equivalent (Deskjet 1220C). Seems sharper and dryer on plain paper.

Oh and I paid around $760 too, at Sim Lim.

we (simon, ed and me) were at Funan this afternoon. shop quoted us $1,599. maybe because its new. :dunno:

The Epson 2100 is excellent but too ex for normal home use.
My 1270 is still here with me...going strong but then again, i have not been making a lot of A3 prints...

THe only qualm i have about the 1270 is that it does not render dark tones eg hair, shadows etc nicely, it comes out muddy...

Forgot to add, the 1290 is the only A3 consumer printer available. If not the Canon one seems quite good too. Can't remember the model though.

CP just had several boxes of s9000 comin in... dunno the price though

Thanx guys for all yr input.

Owners of Epson 1290: do you know how to get the printer to print borderless A3? I have checked the "maximum printable area" option in the printer options but it still leaves a white margin. TIA.
