I know. I did ask if the HDD could be replaced, but it seems like no one knows. :dunno:

should be able to lah.. it's assembled. Juz like a quite a few photogs ripped 4GB CF from iPod and replace with smaller cards. But u want to risk it or not.

or would anyone want to risk it? If it is possible, Epson would sell just the casing alone.
Hence, I doubt that the HDD could be replaced. I'm sure there's a way, but the warranty would be voided.

For the P2000, the HDD can be replaced by yourself but through a very tedious process of cloning the HDD and copying the content to the new HDD. Epson made the HDD in such a way that most of the OS is in an inaccessible partition on the HDD. There are many guides online to teach you how to do it. I think the P3000 should be similar, and warranty will definitely be void, so do at your own risk. Many people have screwed up the whole thing cuz the cloning wasn't done properly. :)

pls define how screwed up is screwed up. If the cloning isn't done properly, can the original HDD be re-installed without any problems?

Seems like nobody bring up the most important thing... battery life?
with such a big lcd screen, will battery power go down fast?

Firstly, I guess no one here has one yet for a user's review to feedback.
Secondly, from here :
"Prolonged Usage with Low Power Consumption
Long-lasting battery life
Advanced LCD screen ensures low power consumption
Back-up of up to 60GB of data on a full charge " <- and this is pretty long by my standards! :bsmilie:

Well, I've heard of the P2000 dying completely, unable to startup at all. To remedy you need someone with the correct disk image to help you recover it.

Looks like Epson has installed some form of inter-lock safey measures liao.
But I still favour the P5000 bec of the black front panel. ;p :bsmilie:

I have one for 3 months already. I brought it to my 10 days china trip in Dec. Battery life.... it is hard to judge, you can check out the specs online. I think it is long enough to watch a full length movie.

Frankly the only thing I don't like about it is the speakers. I really hope they could install a better speaker inside..... I like the slide show presentation of the photos but the accompanying MP3 track sound too weak from the built in speaker.

As per post #28, the website claims 60Gb. But if real life testing is only 2hrs (A full length movie), seems weak leh.

Eh? 2 hours video playback seems fine. I dont see how this goes against its claim of being able to transfer 60GB from removable media to HDD. Two diff battery performance aspects?

Does the P5000 run off replacable batteries? Or is it inbuilt?

No wonder the P2000 was going for like RM900 or so in KL! Thought it was cheap and bought one for myself! Battery life good. I've even left it for a week and the battery is still at full strength. So far no problems. Saw the P3k and P5k at Funan(South Asia)... relieved that I did not buy the P2k in Singapore in December 06.

replaceable, another plus.

BTW, the 2 hours video is aga aga. Just read the specs for the battery life lah. It is more accurate than mine.

What are the prices like in South Asia? Is it the same as in Cathay? ($888 for p3k and $1218 for p5k)

I wonder if this Thursday's IT show will have better prices.

Hope the freebies are ;p too!

No freebies. At least i didnt get any.
p-3000 $888
p-5000 $1218

The guys selling the device at the epson booth at IT show are actually from Cathay.

The device is speedy enough in displaying JPG and RAW. Does a good job with music and videos too.

USB Host port is useful for pulling data and files from other hard drives.

The battery is user removable.

The screen is nice, but im a bit dissapointed at the view angle and the very noticable colour changes from different viewing angles. =\ expected better for this amount of money.

Oh, and there is a video on google video on replacing the p-2000 hard drive with a 80/120/150Gb hard drive. Apparently it is similar for the p3000/5000.

Archos wifi704 80 GB costs $1200 also and it has a 7" geogeous screen with resolution 800 by 480...anyone has got one of this?
