EPL-2 and XZ-1

Bro I might be interested in getting the XZ-1. Is it available for sales in SG already?

The XZ-1 impressed upon me when I first held it. The black version has a texture body while the white one has a smooth surface. For a camera of this size, it can yield respectable image quality across the standard ISO range. OLED is . The zoom mechanism is quiet, responsive and precise. AF is fast and accurate. The menu is easy to navigate too. For people who like to do underwater photography, this premium compact fit nicely into the designated underwater housing.

I waited so long... in time to replace my Leica D-Lux 4. :)

Amazon and some reputable online merchandisers have allowed pre-order of XZ-1. Going by this development I'd expect this compact to be on sale soon. End Jan or early Feb?

the images appear a bit soft... but this might be due to the default NR setting. I hope we can set it to low or off just like in 4/3 or m4/3. the noise in ISO800 is impressive

The resolving prowess of iZuiko DNA is well demonstrated. I dig the ISO400 shots, details are well rendered in the shadow areas. Dynamic range is expected on prosumer camera.

I'm divided btw this and the GF2. Hmm, which will be ready for CNY shootout?

I don't think the GF2 can fit into any pockets easily, so the P&S wins for me. Another few years of advancement, and we may not need DSLRs anymore...

here's the answer to my q...

Noise reduction is not adjustable on the XZ-1, so they're all shot at the default setting.

ahh bummer...

poison... poison... :faint:

yes... this thread very poisonous. I must stay away, at least until the replacement for the E4/5/6 comes... ;p

i like to poison so that more will buy and the price will drop then i buy/buy 2nd hand when they get tired of it :bsmilie: strong will power is needed!!!!

This coupled with the underwater housing might be a great combo for my dive trips.

f1.8 and RAW.. drool...

The specs on the E-PL2 impressive... I have the E-P1, although I have sort of made of my mind to purchase the E-PL2 when it becomes available in Singapore, I am just wondering if there is any folks who thinks that going from the E-P1 to the E-PL2 is a downgrade? I do not think so, but just wanted to seek the general opinions of members of the m4/3 community... I'll be pairing it with the 20mm f/1.7

Cheers!

In terms of specs, IMO, its a little small upgrade, in terms of body, partly up and down, less durable feeling body (though I guess it should still feel durable enough but not same league as the E-P1/2) but similar usage to the E-P1, except only 1 dial IIRC

It is a nice cheap upgrade :bsmilie: though not really very cheap, but personally, I find specs wise its not worth the upgrade, might not be so in your case though

In terms of functionality, it is definitely not a downgrade. The EP1 has no port whereas the EPL1/2 and EP2 has a port for the EVF2.

I started with EP1, then EPL1, currently EP2. Here's some thoughts.

It's pretty much a combi EP2+EPL1 strengths. So u get best of both worlds especially these ones imo
- low AA filter, EPL1 has better details than EP2 (so best IQ for Pens). I sold my EPL1 for EP2 recently and i can see some difference esp on low light/high iso shots. EPL2 shld be same as EPL1 in IQ.
- flash
- 1/4000s max shutter speed which will be good for the 20/1.7 during day (EPL1 is 1/2000s, tho not really upgrade for EP1/2)
- can put EVF (vs EP1, big + if u use manual lens, which is main reason i sold EP1)
- at possibly similar price range of EPL1

But the body feel should be similar to EPL1. the extra dial on EP2 is not really an advantage, imo, the way they implement on EPL1 u can change settings pretty fast too. The grip on EPL1 is good (imo), and it looks like the EPL2's even better.

overall i think it's a worthy upgrade from EP1, not so much if one is using EPL1. But if sleek looks/feel is what u after, then it's a downgrade:bsmilie:

hope that helps!

The EPL-2 does not have an orientation sensor though.

EPL-2 is already out in Hong Kong as I was there few days ago. The actual camera looks round & fat! the kit lens has became so much smaller now! I think it looks more like a toy camera to me! XZ-1 is still not out yet...

Thanks to those who shared your opinion about moving from the E-P1 to the E-PL2...

I'm sure I'm not the only one to take a close hard look when the E-PL2 hits our shores... ;)

Was at MSC this morning and was told that EPL2 will be in this afternoon
Colors Black, white, Gold and Red available with 14-42mm kit lens at $910.
Body only at $820

Kaypo news..... ;)
