EOS - M3

All in all, I am really still sitting on the fences weather to keep M2 or M3. The M3 is significantly larger and offer better image quality and focusing. But I think the firmware needs further improvement to improve the camera handling. The M2 in comparison is really small and pocketable (esp with the pancake lens) and offers most of M3's capability. The key draw here is really the rotating screen which allows selfie, bounce flash and more manual dials.

The EOS M2 does not offer the add-on EVF option.

I may not be right but this is what I think. From observation, the way M2 and M3 locks on to the target is different (as described above M2 "jumps" or moves more aggressively to lock on focus while M3 focus smoothly and do breathing till a lock is achieved. The difference could be attributed to the different sensor used in the camera and different algorithm. The larger data file could also be a factor. I think Canon may not have thoroughly tested it with the adapter yet to improve the focusing on the initial firmware.

I received my M3 about a week ago and must say it is really a super good camera for traveling. I'm a wedding photographer using 5Diii, but have to admit that menu interface and camera design are quite easy to familiarize to. The quality, noise performance are somewhat similar to **D range, nothing to complain about for that except for the multi-function buttion. Would like to assign changing ISO to it but unable to do so. I ordered mine from amazon japan at about SGD $650 for body + EVF. Seems like a really good deal. I suspect the price for EOS-M3 will be about ~$850 range for body only

When will singapore start selling?

Canon standard reply on their FB ~ "Update in June", while HK and TW already on sale...

Still waiting it to go on sale so I could get spare batt...

Someone said it's not possible to order from Amazon Japan. He is either ignorant or a liar.

Exclude shipping cost and gst?

Hmm, seems like that guys does not do enough research. Basically, you need to do few steps as Amazon Japan won't ship to Singapore directly.
1) Order from Amazon Japan and ship to Tenso Japan (like shipping agency, just register an account with them, they will provide you a so-called Japanese address).
2) Once the item has been delivered to Tenso, they will send a confirmation upon receiving the item and ask your permission to insert the battery into the camera as due to Japanese policy, battery can't be shipped separately or something like that)
3) Once replied to them, they will advise the rate of shipping, approximately $40
4) You should receive an item within 2 working days once you have made the payment to Tenso. Surprisingly, no need to pay for tax or gst or whatsoever
=> The entire process may take about 1-1.5 week but you save quite a lot of money there. If you want a less complicated way, you can order from Ebay, about $800 for body only. The EVF alone cost about $300. So quite a steal there. You may consider sell the EVF for $300, so the body technically cost only $350

Shipping is about $40. No GST, no tax

No GST? The shipping company understated the value of the parcel? :dunno:

Nope, the receipt on the parcel still states the original amount in JPY when I first bought on Amazon Japan. :D

That is interesting. According to the tax laws, any parcel which has value of S$400 or more will be subjected to GST.

I guess that the Singapore custom guy must have slipped his eyesight on your parcel.

Thanks for the guide. Almost ordered with VPost address in Japan. I changed my mind because item was out of stock and will arrive only in end April... which is around the release date in Singapore. I'm aware of the price differential but prefer to have peace of mind with local warranty. ;p

You can get the battery now .. its the same one on the 750D/760D which is already in stores I believe.

And the RAW file can only be opened by LR6 and above, which Adobe SG only offers at a full-install price, no upgrade price. :(

Spoke to Canon delivery man at Parisilk. Earliest end Apr 2015, latest beginning May 2015

Any price indication? I am looking at Body, EF mount adaptor, Viewfinder ... should it be cheaper than buying from Amazon jp?
