In the second video, a number of still shots were shown and the credits at the end indicate which lenses were used. At the 2:08 mark, the video shows very briefly a bird-in-flight shot of a sea-gull (not sure what lens, but looked like an EF-S lens with an adaptor). A little hint of what the AF is capable of? But from what I can tell the shot was not very sharp...

Hmmm... this is a VERY good point. Use it as a backup and have a wide angle permanently attached to it.

AF speed, especially with EF/EF-S lenses using adaptor is still a big question mark.

18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor: The EOS M packs an 18-megapixel, APS-C CMOS sensor (similar to the EOS 650D) together with the company's proprietary DIGIC 5 image processor.

Touchscreen LCD: A 1,040k-dot resolution, 3-inch, capacitive touchscreen LCD--similar to the Canon EOS 650D--comes with multitouch capabilities allowing users to "pinch-to-zoom" during image playback and tap-to-focus or even shoot stills during video capture.

31-point autofocus system: The ILC features a hybrid AF system--phase and contrast detection--which means faster and more precise autofocus performance for videos and stills, especially with moving subjects.

Movie Servo AF: Allows shutterbugs to constantly maintain focusing during the recording of videos.

Canon dSLR lens compatibility: Shutterbugs can mount their existing Canon EOS EF and EF-S dSLR lenses to the EOS M ILC and maintain full-AF coupling as well as functionality.

With eos 650d+ef 40mm pancake, there isn't much "size advantage"

Not for lenses, but a huge difference when it comes to camera bodies, particularly the weight.

650D: 13.2 x 9.9 x 7.8 cm (W x D x H), 516 g
EOS M: 10.9 x 6.6 x 3.2 cm (W x D x H), 262 g
40 mm pancake: 6.9 x 2.3 cm (D x H), 130 g
22 mm EOS-M: 6.1 x 2.4 cm (D x H), 105 g

I am tempted by the EOS M, but have no urge to get a new camera body until Canon resolves their poor sensor dynamic range issue at low ISO.

Canon is NOW putting a huge investment on where other camps has been doing for years...

The simple reason is there is no incentive for Canon to invest previously. As correctly pointed out by DPReview, mirrorless cameras have struggled to make headway in the US (and Europe). When it comes to traditional DSLR bodies, companies like Panasonic, Olympus and Sony stand no chance against the Canon (~ 45% world market share) and Nikon (~ 30% world market share) juggernaut.

Wow, AF is slow even by PNS, handphone standard, hope production FW is much better, else it's like "X-slow1" in the making.

Look like the pancake kit will be a good Upgrade for my s95, yet it can be used as a second body with my current set of lens!

Both the above videos showed the slow autofocus using the touch screen,

if using shutter button it might be faster
