this is just a let down.

single digit 1.6x crop body?!

what the hell is canon thinking when almost every other brand has a full frame DSLR, hence, making FF a common place.

instead, canon should be thinking on how to make FF cheaper, instead of making crap 1.6x bodies!

Market demands obviously...given the sizable percentage of ppl who own crop bodies and EF-s lenses, they would definitely be able to sell truckloads of this "cropper" 7D rather than coming out a cheaper FF body and risk cannibalizing their 5DII sales. And at the same time try to one-up N's D300/300s. This 7D is what the 40D/50D should have been...a true "baby" 1D series. :sweatsm:

I guess "7D" is just a crop sensor pro body to match up with D300s. Canon probably didn't anticipate the launch of Sony A850 full frame at all.

Take it easy.. Most people are looking for Canon to release a cheaper FF DSLR so will feel that this is a "let down" if this rumoured 7D is indeed a crop DSLR.

But seriously, IMO if the specs are true, it's certainly NOT a "crap 1.6x". There are many 30/40/50D owners looking for a better crop DSLR and to them, this is certainly a decent upgrade and Canon certainly thinks so by giving it a single digit model name.

same here. I am definitely upgrading to the 7D from my 40D But I am really skeptical on the 18MP's high ISO performance. Hopefully there is some sort of breakthrough on the sensor part though.

Live view was a godsent for landscape photographers. :bsmilie:

I too hoped for 180 f/3.5L IS. Then I realized the 100 f/2.8L IS when coupled with a 1.4x extender would just be as good: 140 mm f/4L IS. Lighter weight as well. I'll take that.

other than concerns of image quality due to a higher megapixel sensor than the previous model, everything on the 7D so far triumphs any competing aps-c models from the other brands. we should be looking at another win for canon in the awards again this year.

18mp sensor (closest competitor sony a550)
dual digic 4 processors (no competitors)
full hd video (non again)
100% vf coverage with 1.0x magnification (non again)
19 cross points af with double cross centre af point (only 15 on the d300s and its all clustered in the centre)

But is the 7D a FF? I don't think so right? Its still 1.6 crop that accepts EF & EF-S lens since the rumour launch the &D together with 2 EF-S lens.
But the 15-85mm lens seem to be a very good range for general walk about.

15-85 is very good range, just that it is not constant aperture... IMO.

It all boils down to what the selling price will be if it is worth to upgrade from a XXXD or even XXD to the 7D.

Ya, I think Canon will at least sell it at SGD2600 for body...
