not sure how long the original battery can last. You guys get the battery grip already?

I think you will find out quickly that the original battery lasts really long

7D is way too much problems. Can't imagine if u type 7D AF issue.... tons of website esp forum reporting it.... i will hold back my buying and maybe save up longer to get a 5D MKII.

Dude, been seeing all your negative post on 7D AF focus and you do not even own one. Have you tried renting one to check it out?

In my opinion, 7D is way awesome with so many new functions and technology

No lah he's right, look at Canon's shares, they're now trading at 0.001 yen per share because of this failure called the 7D!

Yep I got the battery grip already. Leave it on all the time. I prefer the extra heft and weight, makes it more stable IMHO.

The LP-E6 can last very long, it's 1800mAh compared to the 1300mAh of the xxD battery. But I just got another one from amazon for US$59, just in case. ;)

For all the 7D softee advocates, here's a 100% crop recompressed JPEG for your viewing pleasure.

You're a good person to buy the camera from 2nd hand. ;)

i see. thanks!

the body is already very heavy :(. If gotta add in the battery grip then really too much for me. haha. Can foresee my fingers gonna get numb with those load. thanks for the info though. I guess i need 1 extra bat too.

btw, I was wondering, if I just going to take pics of food, portrait, some sports event (running), what lens would you recommend? fyi, I am a super beginner in this field. I been checking around, but then my frens laugh at me say you get the good body, should get proper lens too. haha!

Haha, I won't be selling it until the 5D III comes out. Anw that picture was taken at f/8. Which is supposed to be an already unhealthy aperture for the 7D's sensor.

For sports events, you should consider the 70-200 f/4L. If you can afford it, go for the f/2.8L. Food and portraiture you can get the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8. Though it's relatively long focusing distance could be a bit of a problem for food.

Of course, the above recommendations are only valid if you have a large budget. If you don't, then you can replace the 17-55 with a Tamron 17-50, but make sure it's calibrated properly with your body.

I see. thanks a lot for the advice :). Really much appreciated! :)

My fren recommend the 15-85 kit lens. read up a bit in the forum, seems like most other users are happy with it too.what do you think? As of now, I prefer convenience. haha

Oh yes, how could I have missed out this new gem. The sharpness is very close to the 17-55. Just beware of vignetting at 15mm when wide open.

looks like some people are lucky with their 7Ds.

Mine's only sharp when subject is right in front of you (using center focus and recomposing). Any other just shot, its just soft. Group shoots, tele shots, its crap shoot. my 500d can take better tele shots!!

100% crops of faces taken using 18-200 lens on my 500d have more detail than those from my 70-200mm f4 on the 7d. Faces just look muddled.

I have both the 17-55 f2.8 is and 70-200 f4 is(sharpest canon zoom lenses) and they make my 500d perform very well. My 7D makes these lenses look bad.

But I'm seeing sharp tele photos from other peope, so it's prolly just me. I dunno...
I wonder how often these guys get to have sharp shots.

I should probably just sell it and get a 5D2 for the meantime and then buy it again next year. Assuming canon fixes it.

I'll miss the looks, ergonomics and the features though. 5D2 kinda feels dated.

I haven't bought so not sure can answer all your questions, anyway:

1 Serial Num? There're some rumours what S/N have problems, but I'll just check if it has the latest firmware installed.
2 You can look at Bro Doodah's thread, he has some AF problems with his cam and gives some details to how he tested the focusing.
3 Actually I think the 7D is a very fine camera, very advanced and probably require lots of understanding to do the customisation. But it's the QC issues from Canon that bugs everyone. Probably they meant the QC process is crap, not the camera itself. ;p

Tks sci80899,

looking at your guys' comment, i think i've to wait for next yr to get my 1st DSLR  sighz.
Thanks.

Looks like you got a lemon. Try sending it to CSC?

:think:Maybe you can get a cheaper model first. Or get a used one like a 400d or 450d. Easy to sell at clubsnap anyway. Its just like renting a camera :)

This way you'll be able to fully appreciate the 7D's features when you buy it next year.

Yeah, maybe my 7D is one of the lemons out there.

Thanks jdbatino for your suggestions, yup. i'm working on the ideas of getting the 500D but just dun noe which kit to go with... haiz...

I'm a newbie but having saw the Actor ken wanton mee holding the 7D, damn stylo and having reviewing the 7D reviews on hardwarezone make me wanna jump straight to EOS 7D for my 1st DSLR.

If not for your ppl's "thrashed out" comments, i guessed i've just jump straight into such advance DSLR without knowing wats happening. Glab to join CS and have know you guys!

There's actually a slang word for what he's doing. Its called trolling, so he is a troll. Of course I don't support name-calling.

I use battery grip, now if i take-off battery grip it seems very unstable (although i don't have very big hand, but now use to the weight already).
And battery life is very long, i go for birding and even don't charge after that then still can use for following week shooting ;).
