EOS 70D officially announced and previewed

Ditto here. My experience is with the OM-D. All the reviews indicate the OM-D is as good as APS-C at high ISO. Even DXOMark seems to say that. But when I shoot RAW and review the OM-D images, they are rather noisy even at ISO 1600. :dunno:

Actually... and as I have always said... a sensor is not the only thing that make a camera good. I mean a digital sensor is important, but there are other consideration in a camera such as the graphic card and processor. That is also why I seldom look at DXOmark (although many people take their saying as the bible). Why? I have seen reviews of different brands of cameras with the same sensor, however results are different, and some are noiser than others.

From what I know, Canon made really really good processor (Digic series of processor) and this processors really shine.

yes, in cam processor can make huge diff. I came across someone with special selected processor, the noise level is at least 1.5 stop plus better. also the sequence of converting the digital to analogue can impact on the amount of noise & details.

Sometimes NOISE free isn't the only feature to look out for.
Like cars, some have very good engine and specs....... but lack of features and look.

Hi Guys, I want to get the 70D but have lost touch with the market. Those days only CP or MS were the bigger names.

May I know who else is good that I can consider? I am guessing the pricing won't be much different right? Also it seems like the free gifts are now from Canon, therefore all will give the same?

IT show is just round the corner, not sure if it is going to be competitive in pricing.

I just got the 70D and straight away tested it out at the Singapore Night Festival. In case you are keen to see the quality of photos at night, click on this link here: https://www.facebook.com/neelesh.bhatia/media_set?set=a.10151899872157664.1073741866.791252663&type=3

To me, I love this new camera from Canon!

If u don't mind and happen to have these or some of these ISO images taken from 800,1600,3200,6400 & 12,000 or nearest ISO with original size and 100% crop preferably without PP.

My lens of choice for use with the Canon 70D is Sigma 18-35mm 1.8.

Post on behalf of Neelesh Bhatia :)

Pic w ISO 6400 seems noisy. ISO 1600 is good. How abt ISO 3200?

Why chase the high ISO game?
Photography is not about having the cleanest noiseless photo......
it's about composition, story, lighting mood.

If you need the lowest ISO, get a large aperture lens eg. f2.8, f2.0, f1.8, f1.4, f1.2 or f1.0.
We all know high ISO will sure give noisy image.
Look at medium format camera, what is their highest ISO?

Thanks for posting on behalf.
these images i believe are not crop.
ISO performance isn't anything to shout about imo.
i would probably try to limit it to 1600 for uncrop images, unless the shot is a must or rare opportunity then i will push further up.

confirm better that my current setup haha

Would the image quality of the 70D be better than the 7D? My bf got interested in photography as well. We are now looking out for a body for him. I currently have a efs 10-22mm, sigma 50 f1.4, and ef 70-300 IS USM used with the 650D.

Comparing the frames per sec, 70D is just 1 frame slower. Autofocus system seems to be the same and also has 19 autofocus points. The + point for 7D is the metal body and slightly bigger viewfinder coverage.

The 70D has the swivelling screen which is very useful along with the hdr function. Looking at the 7D resale price of around $1k and 70D of $1300+, the 70D looks like a better investment as the 7D is already a 4 year old technology (not that its not good).

Appreciate advise from the pros.

The first question I would like to know is what does your bf normally shoots?
Now onto your question, frankly speaking since 70D and 7D image quality will be more or less the same.
If you're looking for APSC DSLR body, 70D "you can consider." or 7D will also be ok.

Decision ulitimate lays on what he/she shoots and budget.

Image quality from both cameras would be on par. The biggest difference between the two cameras is the size and weight... 70D is much smaller and lighter and the 7D bigger and heavier.

I've owned the 7D in the past and I've tried the 70D at the Canon Showroom. I really liked my 7D and got some great photos from it, but the 70D is 4 years newer and for that reason I would likely go with the 70D.

I would suggest that you both head down to the showroom and spend some time with each camera. Having them in your hands and trying out the features in person is a lot more informative than reading about them. Good luck with your decision. :)

I'm thinking of getting the 70D. Going HK tmr.

What are the prices owners have gotten it at? Surely not at RRP?
