I just got my CS3 barely a year. Can i ask if i use DPP to transfer file over to photoshop for editing. Will there be a lost of detail or quality in the initial phase(fr .CR2 to tiff)?
or is it better to just get CS4 or light room 2.2?

Even you transfer the raw file from DPP to CS3 to process.
It still need raw 5.4.... but unfortunately CS3 not support it.

You either Get CS4 or lightroom 2.2 .........

Same to me just get the CS3 not more than a year old ago ,now get CS4... NO No No haaaaaaaaaa.
But some not getiing 5D MKii Yet , so still can survive on the current set up.

Just ask price at john , 5D MKii Body alone S$4055, Kit will be S$5400.
belly photo at funan, S$4000 for body , it alright with CC payment (ard 2-3 %) work base on 3% is S$120. if guess pay by cash work out S$3880.

You could download Adobe DNG converter (free) to convert your RAW files to DNG and process them with CS3. Works just fine.

Thanks for the reply. If i use DNG convertor then use cs3.....will there be lost of quality at converting to DNG stage?

Hi LightSaber.. thanks for sharing the pic... (seem like sever black dot issue..)

Hi iMac08.. try the free DNG convertor.. its easy to use and best since its free... It an extra step so unless u cannot take it.. dun try the CS4 which cost u close to a new battery (for Academic version).. :)

what black dots? all i see are the natural high noise levels at iso 25600. no black dots at all at the light sources

congrats, this shows the 5D2 could be useful at 25600ISO for certain situations. Looks like the 50D at ISO 12800.
But there are lots of banding uneven noise distribution in the dark and midrange areas and the noise is pretty observable even when not at 100%, so I guess its for those no-choice situations. Not bad for a 21MP though isn't it! :D
I dun see black dots, though these can only be found zoomed to 100%, so no worries anyway
Are these in-camera JPEG with NR or full RAW converts?

Sorry for not making it clearer... DOn't get me wrong.. i am very impressed by its capability.. and the grains of noise so wonderfully bring back the nostalgia of old film.. I was just trying to echo the sarcaism of some some non-believers in their emphasis of otherwise.. )becos the pic is in B&W???)

:) Thanks for the pictures again.

When I checked yesterday, the batt was no stock anywhere except Cathay and Vivocity selling at 138 retail price.
Hope to wait for price to drop.

In camera JPEGs, although Flickr automatically adjusted it downwards.

I think like you said, the banding is quite obvious.

I adjusted the contrast a bit and added some sepia tint to it, does it look more retro now?

Your welcome, falconite.

Haha, yea, makes one feel like Ah-go-go?
Personally I won't touch 12800 or 25600 given these banding and noise condition, though pretty impressive already, given no other Canon cameras have done so.
I didn't get the 5D2 for noise, quite to the contrary in fact, so 12800 or at least 25600 will be tucked away. Nicer grains can be added in post-production.
But needy days come and go, it will save the day once in a while like when the tripod is at home or the place dun allow tripods or when I left the primes or flash at home. Its like CPF :bsmilie:

But the 1800mAh battery is pretty impressive huh! I get 60% after a half day shoot. So the batt could batt could prob last me a fiull day without a charge, with some emergency juice left:thumbsup: and it is only slightly bigger than the previous BP-512, nice. But i dun like black, why no white battery :bsmilie:

Let's hope the OEM battery folks get cracking on the LP-E6 replacement fast

I do not highly recommend 3rd party batteries, at least for serious works, not gd idea. I tried some time, first they dun hold charge as well and self-drain faster. Have to charge them every now and then to maintain their full capacity, while the original Canon battery hardly loss any noticeable charge after weeks (this hints at the quality of cells used)
3rd party batt lifespan is shorter bcos i am sure they dun use good quality cells, what kind of hi-quality Li-Ion can I expect for "$25"??? I can barely get a normal 4xAA Enelope Ni-MH type battery at $20! They dun seem to last as last as they stated ie i dun think 1400mAh is not really 1400mAh, like perhaps 1/2 to 3/4.
Battery cell quality and fabrication differs, just like Enelope or any other normal rechargeable batteries are different. Canon original batteries work very well, everyone who have Canon DSLR will of cos know that.
I have 1-2 Canon BP512 that are still doing well after 3-4 years of usage! They are very worth it longterm to say the least. Well of cos even if the 3rd party battery is bad, it is only $25, use and throw also can la, thats also a tempting idea for cheap multiple backups in the bag.
However Yi fen qian yi fen huo.
