EOS 5D MKII club.....

Its certainly not very far fetched if Sony decides that they need to push their A900 harder.

But I'm guessing that these competitors are posturing themselves to compete with something that Canon itself is preparing to release. Its something which I think Canon is in the unique position to produce and sell on the DSLR market.

This is entirely my postulation, and something I've been speculating the best part of 1 year now, but I do seriously think that Canon may be preparing for the release of a FF equivalent of its Rebel series. Which like the original Rebel, probably gonna turn the DSLR market on its head ! I think something to look out for in '09 ?

They could either tweak the old 5D's 12mp sensor or the old 1DsMKii sensor and package it into a body with a similar feature set to the 450D, and sell it for double the price of the 450D (costs more than the 50D, FF, but fewer features). And neither Sony nor Nikon has an immediate answer !

Plausible ? :dunno:

If look closely on canon, development way.
what you mention, old sensor and old 3" LCD can be rebrand under in between entry and middle range segment. It just happen on the 1000D 2.5" LCD from old model. focus point limited to 3. The body need to reshape a bit, there another affordable FF camera.......
DIgic 4 not video mode.

Precisely my point! Only Canon has 3 'old' FF sensors besides its current offerings that they can 're-capitalize' and put into a really budget FF !

I second on that , made the FF more affordable for mass.
Canon all the way to go.................

in the ensuing war my view is that its going to be canon and sony at the final standoff. nikon will be squeezed out and will need to merge or be acquired to survive.

I like Canon but I have respect for Nikon. Especially the way they released the solid D300-D3-D700 bodies in quick succession and catching Canon napping. Canon needs Nikon to wake them up from time to time (perhaps the other way round too).

Time is the usually the ultimate factor to determine a brand's commitment and resolve in a challenging market. Both Canon and Nikon have proven themselves. Sony has yet to.

Nikon will definitely catch up on the Megapixel and Video ballgame next year. Just watch this space!
It will be even more exciting to see how the DSLR war continues

Ohoh, not forgetting Leica S2 which will be released next year June.
It will be a class on its own sandwiched between High End DSLR and Medium Format cameras.

Just a little update for all 5D Mark II owners using LightRoom,
Adobe has just released 2.2 update to enable processing of 5D Mark II RAW.

Great news for all owners...

wah.. thanks.... its some consolation....

That is a good news. :)

but i dun work with lightroom.. wahaaa...

Wow Lightroom is lagging pretty badly on my 2.4ghz late 2008 mbp.

I imported a whole folder of 5d Mark II raw pics and i'm constantly waiting for the pics to load up. Gotta wait like 3-4 seconds before the blurry pic sharpens up.

What exactly does Lightroom bring to the table in terms of RAW conversion?

Because all this while, i've been using Adobe bridge to organise my files, and opening the RAW files up into Adobe Camera RAW.

Is lightroom better than ACR?

Because i don't lag whatsoever when i use Bridge

Start using loh, at least it makes my workflow faster. ;)

Lightroom a lot more feature to adjust on the images. It need to purchase.
But DPP is just a very bare basic. it come with canon camera purchase or can download free from canon web site....
It another raw convertor and manage the image file.

Anyone using CaptureOne?

Yap, Lightroom offers more features for basic image editing. 80% of my work flow depends on it.

DPP is trash and shouldn't be used at all.

But what does Lightroom have in terms of raw editting that Adobe camera Raw doesn't

all the crucial settings are there for me to tweak.

It has presets.. which allows you to view in realtime how the pics will look like if the presents is applied.. very very useful.. also allows you to sync the settings in batches.. export in batches.. create instant slideshow/proofs.. allows you to apply ratings so that you can filter your pics later.. very good for pple who deals with large amount of photos.

Don't dump your ballast too soon... :nono:

If you look at the RAW conversion from DPP, especially for high ISO picts compared to 'third-party' converters, to Tiff or JPEG, you'll be surprised what it can do comparatively! The latitude of RAW tweaking in DPP to get out the minute details seems that little bit more compared to other RAW convertors.

There was this ongoing thread in DPReview and other photo forums on this. And many of them agree that in some situations, DPP is the only way to go ! Though, in most, 3rd party RAW convertors are just fine.
