i think we should call a spade a spade. if you want a sports camera, go for one with dedicated high FPS. don't bring along a camera which you KNOW can only do 3fps or 4fps or 5fps and complain that it cannot do 10fps. it's like buying a kia piccanto and complaining that you cannot overtake the ferraris and porches (no offence to piccanto owners).

so if you forsee yourself needing high FPS performance, then you should be looking for a tool which performs to your specifications.

In everyday use, how frequent do we need 5 fps ? 8 fps ? Or is it a feel good factor ? For that matter, does it really make a diff between 3.9fps (4fps) and 5 fps ?
It really depends on application. For those that do landscape/scenery or still life predominantly, then 3.9fps is more than suffice. Those that do sports, wildlife, or the need to capture fleeting moments - these people swear by 8fps or higher.

My cam has 3fps but I still shoot single shot all the time. It's enough for my type of hobbyist photography. So essentially different tool for different application. Like some have said this 5D is not for fast action application. For that you have the 1DM3.

But 5D2 is like putting a porche engine in picanto body and it's priced like a Merc. :o :(

Hmmm... if wanna compare cameras to cars... how about this.....
1DMkIII = 911 Turbo
D3 = R35 Skyline GT-R
5DMkII = RX-8
D700 = Evo 10 :P

911 Turbo is looks nice & fast but GT-R cheaper & slightly faster!
RX-8 looks nicer than Evo 10 but Evo 10 goes faster! LOL
Different cars.. different needs....different cameras..different needs

Hmm...Porche engine in a Picanto body...Think the Picanto body will fall apart when the turbo charger kicks in... :D

5DMkII isn't even near RX8 :nono: that's 50D.

*thinks* 5Dm2 is just like the second version of VW beetle (standard version). Yup... the original 5D can be compared to the classic VW beetle...loved by all, a classic.

Actually I think it's a Porsche engine in a Picanto body and priced as a Picanto, not Merc. The suggested retail price is S$3800 at introduction (street price probably lower), and definitely lower after a few months of introduction, it's value for money and the deciding factor for those on the fence waiting to enter the foray of high-resolution (20MP+) market. For 35mm DSLR, you have only 3 choices - 1DSM3, Sony A900, and now 5DM2 - with 5DM2 the cheapest (and backed by a strong system of lenses & accessories), and probably the best performing of the lot. For those still harping about not enough AF points, not enough FPS, body not pro enough, - I serioulsy think they should look at the 1DM3.

At that price and feature set, Canon has just set a new benchmark for : Value for money FF!

:think::think:... where did you get the Sg RRP?

aniway, it's still twice the price of 50D.

Picanto price => 1000D ;)

Remember the RX-7?? That was very much loved by many as well.. :P
Or how about 5dMk2 = new Subaru WRX? The older model is much loved by all too... LOL

I converted from the US$2699 =~ S$3863 :)

wat I meant was to compare the "revised" version hav pretty insignificant improvement having inherited the linage of a champ while the world catches up and exceeded it... :rolleyes:

You forgot that Canon Sg usually adds about 20% to US prices.

So you'll get S$4635... or thereabout. :bigeyes::bigeyes:

That was before the currency adjustments (the old US$ exchange being about x1.7). Now its more like US price (x1.45) + GST + 1~2 %. Look at the current prices of the 1000D, 450D and 40D, its about there isn't it ?

what the hell is this likening of cameras to cars... hahaha this is so darn hilarious! we're all going nutty~ i think canon has made most of you guys more 'gian' than before it was revealed.. guess their marketing ploy worked!

They mark-up 20% ?? :sweat: Hope that's not the case. I saw from a post - not sure which thread, someone mentioned that John 3:16 is going to sell for S$3850+ when it is here. I sure hope it doesn't breach the 4K price point.

For the feature set on this camera, I'd think the price is well justified.

Want more FPS? Please go for a 1 series :)

heeheehee... I believe there was some downward price adjustment... have not followed the Canon's body pricing since I've got my 30D when it was launched...and yup I've at that time paid about 20% more compared to USD conversion.
