It's a pity though that Canon still haven't implemented the very flexible automatic ISO seen in Nikon and Pentax digital SLRs which effectively becomes an 'ISO priority'.

I wonder though. Given the priority mode, you need to manually adjust the setting to it. So how is that linked with Auto ISO?

I may not understand your question correctly. In Nikon 40x, the "ISO auto" allows you to set the maximum sensitivity (e.g. upto 1600) as well as the minimum shutter speed (down to 1/4). It can be turned on for P, S, A, M mode. It is linked to Auto ISO in that the ISO can be automatically changed if there is too little or too much light to allow proper exposure based the aperture priority or shutter speed priority setting.

sorry OT a bit :embrass:

advisable to get 40D for a beginner? or should i get the 400D? intend to use it for a long period of time...

BBB. this camera is good. beginner or not is no problem. As long as u enjoy shooting and make full use of the camera.

Agree, BBB. If the price is around 2k then it is much better value with its features than the 400D, which is not exactly cheap. The 40D is a significantly bigger step up from 30D than the 30D is from 20D.

Agree with xunjas, there is no fix rule saying that you must start with Point-n-shoot for n number of years before going into DSLR. Infact, if buget permits and if you are really interested in photography, you should infact take the best camera that is within your budget. Because that will enable you to learn the most things .

It is expensive, that is why best is to try out and shoot around with someone else slr and you will know if it is for you... if not, it is a big risk... and I recommend getting second hand stuffs for lower cost and lower risk............

True. Generally all their free gifts are of no real use.

Standardly they give memory card and some stuff. See will there be any difference this time around coz ever once about a year back they gave out printer/grip if I am not wrong :) Maybe lens? We shall wait and see :bsmilie:

The new camera model, EOS 40D, will go on sale late August. With 10.1 megapixel resolution, it is estimated to sell for about 150,000 yen (SGD 1,966.50) in Japan.
Canon said it will also launch seven new models of compact digital cameras and one professional-use digital SLR camera model by the end of the year.
