hmmm, i went to BKK to buy a 1D 2 years ago, and "smuggled" it to SGP w/o paying taxes...hehehe
Yea... best way to 'smuggle' the camera in is to bring it in as if you are already using the camera... put in box not good... Well, anybody still interested in the $7750 1DMKII? I can get one set out definitely by latest mid-July for anyone interested in parting with their money for this fantastic camera...

As I know, there's no international warranty of any DSLR... unless something has changed recently

got my 1D MK II in Singapore for $7550 .. plus GST.. so that should give you some indication of the prices you can get it.. CP and Alan will quote you a bit higher :)

Really???!!! Where???!!! Can tell us? This can help all the interested CS'ers here!

got it from TK foto.. but if you pay by credit card, add 2% more, which is still slightly cheaper than CP

Not too sure whether they'll still sell it at that price though.. cos I was the first one to get it from them after paying a deposit :) so they might have committed to me even before checking out the retail prices at other stores :)

Good luck though! :)

Plus if you buy it from BKK, you can take back about 7% of price as GST rebate.

Yes. It definitely cost less in Singpapore. And you get the local warranty.

From what I know, most of the 1D MK2 has a very sensitive vertical grip shutter release button. It usually triggers when you touch it slightly. No chance to even do a focus lock.

Therefore, with local warranty, you can get this fixed without any additional cost.

Cheers,

Hi, just went to MBK and went to a shop named Fotofile, a well known photography shop in Bangkok. When I was there I stumbled over the prices of the EOS 1DMKII and did a quick calculation. Based on the exchange rate of S$1 to 24 baht, the EOS 1D MKII is S$7750  , which i think is cheaper than that in s'pore. By the way, this is not a gray market set... Anybody have comments?

sorry we did not meet in Bkk last weekend, I was tied up in Pataya.

Anyway hi! The exchange rate on thursday/friday was 23.3 in Bangkok. This would put the price of the camera at $7983.

This is normal.. even with the 1D and 1DS ... you may get it calibrated at Canon, but all you have to do it get used to it that's all! :) hehe

C.Fn 4 to 1, sensitive release has its uses! If you want non-sensitive button do use the slower body or have it "fixed"

You know what maybe Mk2 is not suit for you, hehehe how about D30 atleast we all know there's a shutter delay so you can have all the time do your focusing. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Sorry, need to clarify: the sensitivity of the half-press is adjustable on the 1D/1Ds? Will it be done for free under warranty (ie claim as 'manufacturing defect')?

That was what I was told last time when I had my 1D.. But didn't bother.. Whether or not they charge now is up to them, cos the last time I did a shutter count, it was free, while it costs $20 to do a shutter count now :dunno:

And I don't think it's a manufacturing defect neither will it be labelled as a manufacturing defect... but then it depends yah :) this discussion was also carried out on dpreview forums, if I'm not mistaken.

Hope this helps! :)

The online Price shown at 182,000 Baht. Usually the conversion rate should be around 23. It will cost around 7913 without 7% GST .
To me, I do not think it cheap compare to SG price.

You can double check with them at info@fotofile.net
www.fotofile.net

I just got an online quote from MS. $7688 incl GST, with possibility of further discount.

Errr... now? There are so many boxes stacked at another shop!

Sorry to be OT. But wondering how much is the EOS 1D MKII worth after 5 years?
For me I think, for those who are making money out of it are justified cos they can easily make enough money to cover the cost in no time.
For those who are amatuer like me, it would cost a bomb and the 7K camera have no value-retention at all. When I want to upgrade, then it would cost me another big bomb again.

point taken. the 1D series are defintely for those that have a use for it, be it professional or as a serious hobby.

Well price is subjective. to you its crazy money but seriously if you ask me 3-5 yr ago... spending a few K on contax G2 is also crazy money
