it depends what you want to shoot. dslr lens have thier special abilities to capture what you want. thats the beauty of it.

Sports for example, you end up using AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED orAF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED as you need the distance and the speed to capture the fast motion

Landscape you would likely use like Sigma 10-20 or nikkor 12-24 to try to get a wider view of the landscape.

Marco lens usually allows you to focus the subject at a closer range.

what else? hm..:dunno:

Roger That.... wat about single mm lens ie... 50mm or 60mm... w/o zoom feature rite... shaper picture rite... wat else...

I am a newbie, I also agree D90 is suitable for entry level because I will buy a D90 very soon.

Hi bros, if I get a 2nd hand D70 as my 1st DSLR(beginner here), will I have problems buying lens for D70(be it 2nd hand or new)? I dunno what lens or mount are compatible with D70 but I am looking only into AF lens. :)

better to go for a 2nd hand d80 or a d50.
AF-S and AF-D lens should work on both bodies.
d70 is the oldest of the lot and some of them comes with high shutter count as well.

I'm happy with my D60 =]

However u're not me. Lols

If you do not wanna buy AF-s lenses, just train ur manual focus :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Agreed. Get a second hand d40 and start shooting. You will be amazed by the performance of the d40 (even with the kit lens) given the price that you paid.

my bro is gonna buy a D90 from Japan wen he comes back next wk... firstly i guess there will be body warranty issue... len no worries cos it is international warranty ... any other issue that i am no aware?????

Do you know where (which shop) is he going to buy? If he buys from the big shops like Yodobashi or Big Camera, it's better if he get the point card since you can use it to exchange for other stuff like tripod, SD cards, etc etc. However, the prices at these big shops are obviously going to be higher than online shops in Japan. Much higher. Or if online shops ar a no-no, try Kitamura.

Tokyo... but tik his boss can get good price like 1300SGD only D90 Kit set.. wat about the pt card....

I am a beginner and I bought d90 cuz I didnt want to upgrade later. My younger sis bought a d40 and I find it good enough too. Only complaint is the kit lens at 18-55 only.

ask her to get another zoom lens like the AF-S 55-200mm vr or else she can also sell her kit lens away and buy a 2nd hand 18-105mm instead.

apart from the 3 AF point system, the lack of motor is not really the issue as nikon is going down the path of AF-S lens already.
in the future, almost everyone will at least have 2 AF-S lens in their collection.

Should be around that price now. That's cheapest in online shops, but physical shops should be higher.

Tokyo...there's a huge yodobashi in akihabara. Other shops should also have the point card system. Get that, and they'll give you 5~10% of the price as points, and you can use those points as cash to get other stuff from the shop.

Hi all. Yeah I know. Im a Canon User. But would like to recommend my friend to get a Nikon Entry Level DSLR under $900 which includes stuff like memory card, etc. I am not very familiar with the prices so yeah would like to ask you guys (Nikon Users). ;)

1) D60
2) D40

Well most likely these two models. Would like to know the prices of these with the Kit Lens Please.

Thanks.

PS: Looking out for good deals from MS Color (AMK) and Cathay (Peninsular)
have you considered options from other brands eg for your money can get the brand new Pentax K2000 + 18-55 + flash bundle set. It comes with built in VR so any pentax compatible lens will have shake reduction. Pretty useful unless you dont mind paying more premium for lens based shake reduction. Just me but D40 and D60 are pretty old cameras. Rather get 2nd hand D80 if you are going the Nikon route.

Well. I have a D40 which I bought earlier this year and I love it.

Depends on what you shoot - I'm more into street photography and candids so I don't mind using manual lenses, and now have a 50mm f/1.8 series E and a 100mm f/2.8 series E, and can focus and shoot fairly well with them. Has that taught me more about taking pictures? Definitely.

Not having autofocus is a problem, certainly, but not a deal-breaker. I love my D40 to bits - light, and since all of the lenses I use (other than the kit lens) are manual anyway, it doesn't bug me at all. The kit lens is an AFS, of course - as is the excellent and affordable 55-200mm VR.. so I'm fairly well covered.

A D50, 70, or 80 will allow you AF on more lenses. that's about all, as far as I can tell. But a D40/x/60 will travel easier (being lighter), likely make you adapt to more techniques, and you'll be better prepared for an upgrade when you want to make it, at which point you'll probably go all the way to a Dxxx in a shot.

Excellent point earlier about the Pentax - on body IS really is something worth looking into. You're a bit more constrained in terms of lenses, but in so far as performance goes - sweet.

Of course, if you can get a D90, all of this is irrelevant because it's brilliant in every way. Big if, though, cause it really does cost a fat lot of cash compared to a 40 or 40x.

Good luck!
