[emlee] Italy, Switzerland and France in the November rain, 2010

#15
finally saw some nice colour before leaving Rome. I was super lucky to get this shot. when i shoot the last frame for the stitch, the workers come in, block off the entrance and started cleaning the pool!

The lighting in this photo is nice! Strangely, where are the tourists :dunno: Planning to go next May. Your's was free and easy?

Camping!

Though its a bad weather but you still manage to capture the best scene whenever possible...

thanks Thomas, for your kind words as usual.

 #1 & #15... Great eye!

Just to nitpick a little. Seems like #1 wasn't stitched properly if you look at the bottom centre (the white line)

Camping in this thread for more :)

thanks mimik07. oh yes, i see it now. thanks, am planning to re-do this piece.

OMG DanMan, where have you been?! So honoured that you dropped by. This shot was 7:30am local time, the tourists are still having breakfast.
I did free and easy via Eurail. comparing with Japan free and easy (which I also did via rail), this is a lot tougher. If you are keen I can share more.

Just finished processing day-3 pictures last night and realised that I did all the touristy shots that day - in Pisa! Like I said, I am really no good with architectures and monuments. And such a pity cause it was a good weather day. sigh. Till tomorrow then.

#11 Trevi Fountain
By now the rain is pouring down. we waited a bit at the Macdonalds before going forward. The Macdonalds has a roof terrace which would have been nice on a good weather. This shot was taken with rain gear on. but i still needed to pan up hence cannot avoid the rain drops. YOu can see all the tourists are not deterred by the weather. this is the case everywhere we went.

Hello Emlee, I love this Trevi Fountain capture. Three motion elements. :)

Ok, found something that is less touristy.

#18 Tangent delta
I had wanted this image to be extremely shallow in depth of field, but my lens is not fast enough and the distance not far enough. This DOF is post processed.

Day-4
picked up our rental car from Florence for a drive out to Tuscany. Cloudy/ rainy on/off day. First stop at the shopping outlet The Mall. Took some pictures while my wife went on her hunting.
The sun caught occasional breaks in the clouds and I made the best of it, and the surrounding.

2nd stop: Volterra. I had this image in my mind of what I wanted to capture of Volterra and San Gimignano (Volterra is the city they shoot the 2nd Twilight movie: New Moon). I had wanted a distance shoot with inclusion of the surroundings. But the correct highway exit was blocked off, and the other way in had no good lookout point. That plus both these cities are up the hill, I could not see them at the angle I wanted at all. Any kind souls who know of lookout points where one could photograph the whole of Volterra or San Gimignano, please give me the GPS coordinates... This is my only regret not joining the day-tours: 1 of the highlights was that they'd take you to a lookout point for San Gimignano.

Great set of photos! Reminds me of my trip there last fall, ahh you can still see some greenery in autumn, when i was there in December everything was wilted!

Thanks hetfeildpaul. I would not have travelled in Dec as it would really be too cold for us.

I like this piece as the sun breaks the clouds, only a small part of the field gets illuminated. Somewhere near Volterra.

#23 Volterra
This is from somewhere near the carpark entrance. Somewhat the back view, as opposed to the distant front view that I wanted.

#24 Inside Volterra
This is 1 of the few inside pic that I like. The place feels like a time machine, where time did not move since the medieval period. This street best reflects that mood.

Thanks ClemC. Did you go to the cafe in The Mall? Did you notice all the husbands are in the cafe? hahaha.

Bro, I was on duty (assigned to shop) - make a quick trip to "The Mall" via bus to/from florence.. no time for kopi, shop-shoot and catch bus back to florence.. LOL

BUT I did buy return trip bus ticket from the Cafe, and yes, noticed the "slight" gender-bias :D

Like #22 & #24
