Nara's summer event for the Obon period (お盆) where Japanese return to their
hometown to pay respect to their ancestors. It's actually the Japanese version
of the Chinese's 7th month festival or Buddhist's Ullambana (盂兰盆)

i've seen this in person and a million other postcard-type iterations of it and nothing beats an eikin-ed version of it. :thumbsup:

Main castle was destroyed in WW2, and rebuilt after that.
This is one of the 3 smaller original towers that survived the war.

oh u visited my hometown...neighbourhood. nice shot u have there of the desert. did u go real early? the wind waves on the sand dunes are usually 'messed up' after hordes of people trample on the sand.
 

yup i was there like 4 plus in the morning!
