hi, from where can i get this lens and how much does it cost roughly? and should i get a 2nd hand one or a brand new?

It's all over the forums. Do a search please. Check the sticky for Canon Lenses in the Canon Sub-forum.

very little people selling, got mine brand new at $360 from CP.

Few people selling, guess because it's new, and it's cheap enough for a 200mm zoom. Bad IQ also can keep for emergencies :)

spend aroudn $330 getting a second hand, just add $30 more. get a brand new one. better be safe then sorry. don't think you will want to get something that might have some problems with it.

p.s not saying that CSers sell bad stuffs.

okay thanks! i know what to do ;)

Some pics I took over the recent weekend as a reference for those who are still considering whether to get this lens.

All shot in raw with 40D

Hey, I'm planning to get this lens, and my friend tells me I should get a hood with it. Does anyone recommend that?

There's some flare at 55mm wide open that you might want to combat with the hood but if you're not shooting at that focal length often, then don't bother.

But I'd recommend the hood anyway. Makes you look fierce-r :P I like using hoods with my longer lenses because the front element is more susceptible to knocks and stuff while manoevring through crowds.

You can use the hood to whack people. :bsmilie:

Is the hood for 55-250 same as the one for 18-55?

How can it be the same? 18-55 is a wide-angle zoom to short telephoto. Using a telephoto hood will cause vignetting! Common sense ah.

Anyway the "T" in ET-60 means Tele, and the "W" in EW-60 refers to "Wide". The 60 denotes the boundaries of the filter size of the lens.

The E probably stands for "Expensive". Lens hoods are a ripoff. Especially if you buy an expensive non-L lens like 17-55 F/2.8 IS USM which has a drastic flare problem and doesn't come with a supplied lens hood.

Just asked CP-M today selling for $370. :)

I bought this lense few days ago at Song Bro - Funan 2nd level: $345 cash.

just got a 55-250 lens today... DOF is definitely is more obvious now with my 40D
