anybody tried using 17-55mm f2.8 for IR ? im currently using a 17-40mm on a IR converted 350D . it works fine . but i am thinking of getting 17-55mm f2.8 so i can also use it on my 550d as a walk about. keeping both would be off my budget . so i'll definitely need to sell of the 17-40 if i am getting the 17-55mm ..

Maybe you can get more replies if the question was posted in IR thread.

Never had the chance to test this lens with IR cam so can't give any inputs.
Build wise, I prefer the 17-40mm F4 than the 17-55mm F2.8

hey , thank you for the advise . ill post @ IR section . ohyea , haven got the chance to thank you for the IR conversion too . thanks and if i can i will bring the 350D for a IR shoot this weekend before i bring it to korea next thursday :)

kenji87, welcome to the world of modified cameras. All thanks to our good friend who made it come true, right?;)
I have no experience in how 17-40mm perform in IR, but I know my 16-35mm cannot make it in the hotspot department.
But I am sure you can look for someone who has the 17-40mm, or even perhaps you can go down to your usual friendly neighbourhood camera shop where you buy 99% of your equipment from, and ask them to let you try out one before you decide.

A good example is our good brother LowLights who did it together with our good brother SurrealDreamWalker in the very recent thread where they tested a few (note, a few, not only one... hahaha...) lenses.

But after saying all that, I am sure there must have been some experienced senior members here who have tried out the 17-40mm on their IR cameras whom may give us some more feedback.

17-55mm f2.8 I have this lens, works fine on Modded Camera.. i'm not a pro but i can tell its really fine.

Used a Modded D70(no hotspot) and and non Modded D90 seem much better then the kit lens where hotspots are visible..
