yeah maybe i shld. oooh...so can't wait to get a new lens though. zzz...

anyway, any 15-85 user here can tell me if the lens blocks out the built-in flash at say...20mm?

Err i'm not sure what you mean but im just guessing... i took the pic using 15-85mm at 15mm to 28mm can see my lens shadow only at 29mm onwards there's no more shadow... if this is what you mean.

yes bro this is wad i meant. thanks a lot! well that means only one thing - need an external flash! anyway how's the build of the lens? your silver ring coming out? lol.

haha you are really obsessed with the silver ring. i never realised that the silver ring is actually a sticker before i came into this thread. had to look really close to realise that Canon didn't stick my silver ring nicely and it got some overlap at the ends :p

bro the silver ring matters if u wanna re-sell it in future leh. well...i guess the silver ring is a problem in all efs lenses la. my 18-55's silver ring also never stick properly. there are overlaps too and places which didn't stick well. but then that is the kit lens, i dun plan to sell that baby. lol.

jeez, how come this is the only forum i see that has meh reviews on the 15-85. the forums i go to (US, canada forums) are all raving about this glass. nearly everyone says value for money, and wants to get their hand on it asap. in fact, i've been wanting to replace my 17-85 with this, just that i've got no money. o.O but i heard it's made in taiwan. anyway, on amazon, it's retailing for US$679.

by the way, this is not my picture, some american guy took sample pics, so it's just for illustration purposes to show the IQ. the lens was paired with a kenko circular polariser and he used a 40d.

ok i rented one a couple of days back. this lens has great IQ. the IS works wonders. everything about this lens is great except for the build. sadly. at 24-50mm there's zoom creep. now this is worrying because its still a new lens no doubt. and within a short span of 2 months its already creeping...what about 2 years? or 4 years? this glass is heavy, too heavy for the plastic body i guess.

any existing owner of this lens can clarify this point? any zoom creep on your copy? efs lenses tend to wear out pretty fast ie. 17-55, 18-200.

no 15-85 users to comment on this?

What is zoom creep? With my hood on, I can only shoot 40mm and above to prevent my hood from showing with the built in flash.

What is zoom creep?

Zoom creep is when the lens unintentionally zoom in or out due to the weight of the lens itself, for example when pointing downwards.

yup...u can view an example of it on youtube. they haf a clip of the nikon 18-200 doing the zoom creep. i believe its a normal phenomenon with zoom lenses that extends and have glasses that are really heavy. but then again 24-70L doesn't exhibit that although its freaking heavy.

thanks for the explanation.

Auden: So far, that did not happen to my lens. Btw when I point 90 degree upwards, I need additional strength to zoom to 85mm. :bsmilie: I saw the video that you mentioned on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5FmLiXiEx0

I got the hood at $69 from Canon Vivo city. Need to reserve as they do not have stock.. Not sure if they have it now or not.

15-85 is super sharp...that's why i wanted to get it. but the build isn't to my liking due to zoom creep.

maybe you rent the bad copy
it's a good lens

maybe but its a pity cuz i already bought the 17-40...now i'm having some 2nd thoughts. lol...yeah i have to agree tt optically the 15-85 is superb. like the sharpness a lot, but when it came to colors...it loses out a little. but that's ok i guess cuz these days can PP our photos.
