I guess the 15-85 is a replacement or alternative to the 17-85, perhaps with better IQ... at least on test charts. IQ aside, it can't quite compete with 17-55 simply cuz of the f/2.8.

well i like the 15-85 range a lot. the build of the 15-85 is described as better than the 17-55 too. unfortunately, i dun tink the 15-85 will be really useful indoors if shooting people. oh well...still deciding.

Just use flash ;p

hello, any 15-85 users who can give 1st hand account of the lens? or maybe the lens is kinda bad, thats why nobody wanna talk abt it.

i think the 15-85 is wonderful. is it out in Singapore as an official set by itself? as in, with the box etc.? cuz i read that shops were selling this lens which were part of the 7D kit.

anyway this lens is selling at ard $1.1k+. i was wondering, does the silver ring on this lens peel off so easily? there is one CSer already talkin about his being peeled off. anyone else would like to comment on this? especially those who have got this lens.

I'm using the 15-85mm lens that come together with my 7D. So far no complain. Focal length is good. I've not use other lens yet. So I really can't say much here. So sorry. Very sharp but sometimes at the corners abit soft but I guess it's ok with me.

has ur silver ring slightly peel off?

that's wonderful. some softness at the corners at the 85mm area right? well thats ok to me. i'm not a professional also. haha...and its a $1.1k lens, not $2.1k...so it's still pretty understandable. even some L lens are soft at the corners and nobody's complaining. i'm really deciding between the 17-55 and 15-85. can't really decide...both have their strong points and weaknesses. 15-85 is definitely a better walkabout, and the 17-55 is a more specialized lens (for e.g. weddings). the 17-55 can give u really beautiful images if u take your family a lot. it's a wonderful people lens. no doubt. i used it for weddings before without flash most of the times. it has always been the lens i wanted to buy but here comes the 15-85. what i am looking for is really a good, sharp walk about. something that i can just bring out and not haf to drag along another lens or 2. if only the 15-85 was f/4, it wld be so much easier to decide.

Even with f2.8 of the 17-55mm..... you'll still need to use flash for indoor shoot. f2.8 helps, but don't means that it could work wonders under low light condition.

yeah that's true. but f2.8 can create really nice blurs. oh well, i really dunno. some people are complaining abt the 15-85's silver lining coming off. that's really bad. it's a $1140 lens. not cheap. u using 15-85?

No.... using EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 as my walkabout lens.

Personal speaking.... a walkabout lens doesn't really need to have a large aperture, which is why I said constant f4 would be good. What I really like is the EF-S 15-85mm zoom range of 24-136mm when compare to EF-S 17-55mm zoom range of 27.2-88mm..... its 'wider' & 'longer'.

hi don' be stingy on buying a realtively good lens if you have the budget...
15-88 is bad lens, the lens faction is more than 5...
someone had mentioned 17-55mm...this is relatively better but choosing lens there is sth. i would like to share..the lens factor, let's say the 17-55, 55/17 = 3.2 so the lens factor is 3.2 ... the better range will be below 3...tha's why prime lens mostly expensive. besides the 50mm f/1.8

i think the only thing thats holding me back from the buying the 15-85 so far is that silver lining. haha! i'm still thinking if i shld get the 17-55.

Care more for how the lens would improve your photo.... less on what 'color' ring the lens have.... br it Sliver, Broken Gold, Green or Red.
