get the 3rd party. don't waste money on fisheye if u not doing astronomy.

haha no plans whatsoever to get a fisheye anytime soon man.. i don't see the point of paying for a lens that makes you go 'WOW' for the first few uses, and after which it'll be spending most of its time in my dry box. haha

exactly. so 3rd party will do. i considered then realised its novelty effect wears off after awhile.

yarr. in a REALLY short while.. you don't even need to own the lens for the effect to start wearing off. hahah..

May I ask 1 question?

Why people asked for lens code? Is this lens have a better built in certain year? If buying second hand, is it choosing build in certain year? or choosing the younger is better (shorter usage)?

Thanks!

Not necessary cos some IS mechanisms are different in different lenses.

 i cant compared the difference for this lens, i am just estimating the difference in pricing~ =)

buy new lens in 2007, i prefer to buy lenses made in 2007 instead of 2006. It's like buying old stock.. warranty wise is still 1 year regardless of 2006 piece or 2007 piece..

for buying second hand, it is better to know lens code. take note these lenses code ie UU, UV are applicable to the canon pro lenses. L series.

older version lenses may have some manufacture defects that need corrections by Canon. do take note of that

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-24-105mm-f-4-L-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx - extracted from this site. for older lenses, this 24-105mm has a flare problem..

Canon has posted a Service Notice acknowledging the flare problem and will repair any affected lenses (a Canon date code/control number less than UT1000) at no charge (including shipping). Be aware of this issue if buying a used lens as it may or may not have been repaired. Although Canon should have caught this fixable issue before releasing the lens, I would quite honestly be extremely happy with this lens even if this "problem" was a permanent characteristic of the 24-105 L. Although I am sure it can happen, this unusual flare has not naturally occurred in any of my photos. And, I could see the flare in the viewfinder and thus, prevent the problem (if I am paying attention of course).

Thanks for your info. Then I will choose a later year built.

Cos there are different IS mechanisms for different types of lenses, not one for all.

but don't you think it would be better if canon actually labelled their various IS systems? hmm.. like the new generation IS, tripod sensing IS and stuff like that..
