EF 11-24 F/4L

With such a heavy price tag, easily more than $3,000 locally, I wonder how many people would buy it.

Comparing to Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 which is under $2,000, I do not find that it is justifiable for Canon's pricing.

Upcoming Tamron 15-30mm f2.8 VC may be a better choice given it is half of Canon counterpart.

14-24 under $2000?? Since when?

Len is a long term investment. Indeed the price is a bit expensive but I'm sure it will still have market for landscape photographer. In fact I will buy coz I have been waiting so long for canon to come out this range of ultra wide angel Len.

The absolute amount may be daunting for some, but I suppose it is just a matter of time for a professional to recover the cost of the lens.

Plus, it goes to 11mm on full frame, if that's what you are gunning for!

Look like canon & Nikon nowadays already world challenger with wider lens.

Seriously, if you have never been excited and owned the Sigma 12-24mm since it's first launched in 2002, then I am really surprise that you have need to own this canon lens, except "lim beh has money" reason :)

Just a single lens can buy a whole new body lol

There are many lenses which are priced more than camera bodies.

Just wanna to know here, who had invest an over 100k in this camera hobbies ha ha

this lens is too expensive for an hobby gua.....almost 3k....i guess i stick with 16-35 f4
come to sg will be almost 4k with all the tax where sg is famous for

Price is relative. If Canon were to depend on working professionals to buy their high end stuff, they close shop already. Quite the contrary, many hobbyists use equipment which some working photographers can only dream of.

True.. Once visited my father's friend who's a pro photographer.

We were looking at his gears (Phase One, Sinar..) when he mentioned that he once went to Arab for ads shooting.

There, a local photography dealer told him that the young Arabian royals brought Hassie cams when they just started learning photography..

Perhaps gold plated Hassie some more :p

OT: A friend of mine show me the new Canon Singapore Calendar 2015. From the EXIF file And ask is 500D & 50D a very good camera? Why alot of nice photos in the Calendar is taken with them?

A good photographer are able to use normal camera & lens to shoot a very nice photos.
It also can use an expensive good camera & lens to improve the image quality.
All depend affordability. If you can afford, why not just get good and expensive stuff.
BWM and Toyota both are car is the same. The Function are same as well. But the status are not the same.

For some reasons, I am happier with my photos taken with 50D + 10-22 than my current 5D3 + 16-35 f2.8. That's with low ISO and on tripod for landscape photos.

OT:

LOL.. I thought I'm the only one feeling like that. Thou mine is a 500D instead. My current 5d3 + 17-40.
But I sure do appreciate some 'minor' stuffs that 5D provides over the 500D when I go into many minutes of long exposure.

this lens better be sharp at that price range

any MTF charts or studio test charts to share guys?

Whats really surprising is the brass mount is attached direct to the plastic only... odd for a $3,000+ lens ! :what:

( The yellow Brass mount direct to the plastic frame... VERY surprising! )

This lens looks good for landscape, but probably not so suitable for night milky way shots and aurora shots at F/4.

At F/2.8, the Nikon 14-24 is already struggling especially when doing fast moving northern lights.

Still it is tempting....luckily the price is stopping me. If it is priced at S$2k I would probably give in...:P
