I am thinking of buying a Yongnuo flash from ebay, seller in HK, which is less than 100 SGD. I was told that i need to pay customs for it, is it true? Can I buy flash/filters from ebay. I tried searching for information in the forum, but couldnt find. Please enlighten me on this.

You only need to pay gst if the value of the goods exceed $400, shipping included.

Personally I avoid the hassle and buy locally or buy when I go to china. Especially if it is a matter of less than $100.

I got my copies from ebay. So far so good, if you can wait for delivery. Especially if you buy several sets it can save significant amount of money. I got 3 copies of 460 for slightly below $50 each. 3 x 50 = 150, it is even cheaper than buying 2 sets locally. Of course the risk is what if a copy is faulty then the trouble of sending it back for another exchange.

But it is up to you, for cheap stuff I rather take the small risk and save the money instead.

I am a frequent buyer from ebay, so far all is well. You can always request the ebay seller to test before shipping out to you if you want to play safe.

You are protected by Ebay and paypal against people who fraud your money. Just look for sellers with 99% and above positive rating who has thousands or tens of thousands of transactions dealed so they should be trustworthy.

Yeah depends on ur trust level. Been buying since more than a few years ago and no realli big scams at all. Some electronics like card reader etc will spoil, but they will gladly replace it for u.

Heck, my friend order a Zeiss 18mm for close to 1.7k all the way from HK and it reached safely within a week. Got myself a sx 70 all the way from canada, and it was perfect. I'd say its quite safe with paypal working in hand with ebay.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, actually I am looking to buy a YN-465, the guy is selling for $85 but I dont seem to find it in SG, if so I would definitely buy here itself. Thanks for all your advice again.

I bought many items from Ebay as well but encountered a scam where I was sold a counterfiet battery grip for my 5DMKII. Really looks like real thing except it feels lighter since it was made of plastic. But luckily, paypal help me resolved it and I got my money back.

So overall my experience with Ebay sellers are still good.

Haha I got my 35L 2nd hand through ebay also, a big risk but luckily all is fine.

Haha battery grips and batteries I buy from ebay with the mindset of getting non-originals. There are many fakes (from china) packaged in boxes with CANON logo on them. Even for my Samsung phone battery (Galaxy S) I bought 3 + charger for $17 lol and they looked 95% like the original from the outside.
