Try not to use wide angle for portraits.. subject might not be too pleased with the results.... not to mentioned that you'll probably be wielding the lens right in front of the face occasionally..

Both can, If you're talking about whether FL is too long.

Just walk a bit lor.. 85mm on nikon crop is approx 127mm on FF. The Canon 135mm F2L is a popular portrait lens.

Neither... both are too short. You'll get lots of distortion unless you want a small person in a BIG background kinda shot.

35mm still quite ok. Just walk nearer to the subject for half body shots.

and walk further for full body shots (subjects seated).

hmm but since 35mm on crop body will become 50mm... i think more suitable for half body shots then full body.

i think u can leave home your 11-16mm... even at crop factor... its 17mm... not very suitable to shoot protraits, if u must, shoot at 16mm instead.

Your 35mm is a better choice.

u can bring your 11-16 but not for protraits lah. if u all going to fullerton, after the protrait shoot u can shoot landscape mah :bsmilie:

Alamak.. which "expert" says daytime landscape muz use tripod one....

You all very hardcore leh.. need external flash, need tripod.. need................ $$?

I guess I need to save up quite a bit before joining any photoshoot outing already..

I oni have pop-up flash.. and never carry tripod for day shoots ( coz very heavy.. not some strong and light expensive brand.. :cry: )

What about those who resort to the 135 f/2 DC? That's perhaps one of the most sought after lens for portraiture! Whilst there's quite a lot of threads out there comparing the bokeh performance amongst these various primes, your desired shooting style plays a great part too.

WA portraiture be lean more towards the creative side. Background elements, model's outfit, light conditions all have to be well balanced to pull off a WA shot successfully, and there's the issue of whether you can apply distortions in a pleasant, appealing manner. That is why close to 99% of all portrait shots fall under the play-it-safe category (but hey, there's totally no fault in playing it safe!). Go take a peek at this Wide Angle and People group, it's got some interesting shots there. ;p

And if you really do it well, I don't see why you should get a slap, unless...

Daytime might need in some cases but i am thinking of evening landscape shooting... btw my tripod is heavy too but heng i got used to carry heavy equipment :bsmilie:

Nikon crop is 1.5x, I guess..

So, when using 30mm on D90, the picture should come out identical to a 45mm on FF cameras in terms of framing.
