Some of Norman's images in the current issue of Digital Photojournalist...

Check it out here!

e first two sets definitely shine in the realm of abstract art. they entice u to dive into them and set ur imagination free. for the last set, well it's just too blatantly garish.

that said, u have to understand i m not a champion of human subjects.

perhaps e original thread starter may wish to consider expanding in the direction of #1 n 2 in the link? the opportunities are boundless. somehow, they just remind me of M.R. style from theluminouslandscape.

paiseh, i must be babbling too much. then again, there aint many works in this forum to set me off like these do.

I am a freelancer, usually shooting for humanitarian aid organizations overseas when not shooting in singapore. So all my trips are mostly on my own dime, and I send my pictures to photo agencies to sell to news organizations and stuff.

Hi Norman,

may i know which photo agencies we can contact if i have covered some incidents with news value? thank you.

wow... so brave of u taking these pic in such chaotic situation

Well... photojournalism isn't about abstract art. Sometimes, it gets garish. It isn't for everyone. As they say... if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. :)

Here's a link to illustrate my point:

Hi Norman,

I work with World Picture News and Polaris images out of New York. Also OnAsia Images based in Singapore but their office is in Bangkok. Google them and you should be able to find their contact info.

Hi Norman,
The E. Timor pics are great - reminds me of my volunteer trip to Aceh. Keep it up in remembering the poor, God has a heart for them and those who remembers them.

Regards, Harry

impressive. And I can feel the unrest in the pics as well as admire you for your courage.

Hi Norman,

I love the approach you have adopted in your coverage of East Timor. Indeed, your photos has reflected the social unrest and insecurity that is currently happening in Timor.

I have viewed through your other galleries and the coverage on H.Katrina is nothing short of breathtaking :)

Am looking forward to more coverages from you.

Best regards,

Ron

Norman: Didn't realise that you're the same guy from WPJA :) Truly inspiring and your work has moved many of us. Bravo!

Hi Norman,
Thank you so much for those photos. I have been trying to find some good photos that can tell me anything at all about what's happening in East Timor and there isn't really much. Unfortunately, I'm not a photojournalist and still 'stuck' in Singapore for the moment. I would really love to cover some aspects of the recent happenings like the rock fightings and machete wielding gangs roaming the streets. Perhaps i might even know some of them. Thank you so much once again for your wonderful photos.

P.S. Yeap, you are right that the ppl in East Timor generally leave foreigners n the media ppl alone. Any photojournalist game to go there and cover the recent happenings? If u r interested on what is going on in ET right now, let me know. My friend who is working there has a blog that'll tell u about recent happenigns.

Keep taking great pics guys!:D

Thanks guys, the picture with the hand caressing the asphalt is actually a mother touching the spot where her son was shot. it was a very poignant moment and almost moved me to tears when I witnessed it. I plan to have an exhibition of my photojournalism work in Singapore, if anybody has contacts whom I can talk to, it'll be greatly appreciated if you can pass them along.

Your shot is a very personnal close-up into the scene. How did you mix into the situation?. Did you get harrased when you point your camera at the people?
Those shot are not easy take. Seem like you are invisible to them. Do you communicate with them?.

Well done.

Hi Norman,

Thank God you're alive and well. I found about your photos through OnAsia and I am glad you're sharing these hidden gems with us. Some are indeed very graphic and some are really keepers. Great work! However, I am suprised you're still with OnAsia because I've heard 'interesting' stories from other photographers. Anyway, wish you the best of luck for your career and do share with us if you have any other picture worthy stories. Cheers!
