Oh it's simple really.

The 11-22 is physically too long to be used with the pop-up (the flash would actually cause the lens itself to cast a shadow on your subject).

So any lens larger/longer than the 11-22 would be out as well.

That's it? The actual length of it?

OK... just made a fool of myself... Noted.

Thanks!
Eric :)

No problem!

A lot of people overlook this point actually, I'm just speaking from experience. ;p

Actually there is also another reason... the 11-22mm is wider than what the built in flash can cover... so you will need an external flash with wide angle attachment to fully fill that area.

E500 and E330; the built-in flash is slightly in different positions yeah?

Will that make a difference?

Cos we were toking abt 11~22mm being used on a E330... Jus covering all angles... :dunno:

Where are you located?? If anywhere in KL or PJ, we can meet. Since Blu is still learning and the results were from a E-330, seeing the effects on a E-500 would be interesting.

Me? I'm in SG leh... :)

Blu may be down in S'pore in Dec around christmas. BTW, is SG=S'pore? (blurr)

Hi, just got to read the comments and suggestions. very encouraging and informative, thanks for all the inputs.

Re: Lens shadow fr the 11-22mm(@11mm) while using onboard flash

Theres a way to overcome it, shoot with yr camera upside down. Dat way, theres no background to catch the shadow. However, it attracts weird stares and maybe seen as a moronic way to hold a camera. And yeah i do like dat =)

I'd rather just buy one of those handle grips with a cold shoe to take hotshoe-mounted flashes so to get more distance between the flash and the lens... but you'll need a PC Sync port on your camera or some adapter that fits to the camera's hotshoe mount.

hi guys
i'm in the same tight position.
Was telling my sis that i will be buying a DSLR and b4 i know it she already has me in her list of backup photographers on her actual day wedding early next year.
Now damn stress sia haven't buy camera have to be camera man already haha.
Anyway going to buy the E500, is it good enough for the banquet? After reading up what you guys have discussed, am i right to say i need to go buy a exteranal flash?

Damn stress sia haha, hope i dun screw up her big day :dunno:

Not so stressed as a backup. at least you learn. E-500 is good. Please add external flash for distant and angle. FL-50 for faster recycle times but if on a tight budget, get a 2nd hand FL-36 The FL-20 is hopeless.

Hi,

Get ur sis to subsidise ur purchase lah... or at least tell her to take some money from the red packets she collect and buy u a FL-50... ;)

Good suggestion...How can you work for FREE.;)

haha better not sia
if not wait the photos come out sucky then i really die big time
at least now its for free so wun feel so bad i guess haha

What's the worry, you are playing second fiddle and on top of that, you are "not paid". The cost of the FL 50 is only to assist you in getting better pictures..:D

I'll tell you what is stressful: getting out of the main photographer's way and vice-versa! :bsmilie:

First of all, one must not use a new piece of equipment which you are not familiar for important event. Of course if you get the FL50, then I suggest to have a feel of it weeks before the actual wedding shoot.
Finally, it is your confidence in the equipment and yourself to to give the best shot....

Well said. It is important that you do any testing in your own free time and not take an event for this. It is a formula for disaster.

haha ok
point taken
thanks alot guys
