Seldom see Oly camera used in weddings so I thought most people will prefer N or C cameras.

Thanks!

You seldom see Olympus anywhere! The sheer number of C/N users out there is simply the majority. I have shot so many events and concerts, and am so used being the only Oly user. I met one Pentax user, only once, for an assignment in Taiwan.

Since you mentioned that you are the back up shooter, then by all means, experiment and shoot away. In fact, without the stress of being the main photographer, you can shoot a lot of candid and details usually missed by the busier fellow. And add those images together and you two should be able to produce a stunningly beautiful and interesting photo album.

Take the role of the "other guy" seriously and "lay low" in the background and you will be surprised at the photo opportunities that you will have... I think the 40-150mm will be used most in this case. I would if I am in your shoes. The 40-150 can produce beautiful images. But be careful of lighting because you don't want the 40-150 to hunt too much and you missing the shot.

Have fun!

IIRC, Albert Chua of Everafter is using Olympus for all his wedding works.

I have the E330, 11-22mm, 14-45mm, 40-150mm and 50mm macro, FL-36 flash. Seldom see Oly camera used in weddings so I thought most people will prefer N or C cameras.

Thanks!

I used my Olympus for weddings too and you'll be pleasantly surprised that C and N users telling me that they like the Olympus lens quality after looking at my photos...

Anyway, you got a decent system and do make the most out of it ..

cheers

Recently I have gotten myself a 2nd hand E300 as a headstart into DSLR. Despite I know E300 has alr phased out, I still chose this model for its solid body as compare to E500. I tried shooting during the past weekend. Perhaps it's my lousy skill, I dun seem to get the rich color tone I wan.

I wonder how the feedback for E300.. Can this model be good enough for wedding photography too ? (hmm..my sis ROM mid nx year, still have time for me to brush up my skills. )

should I keep to this cam?

Just FYI, I also saw a pro photographer shooting a wedding using a dual E300 set-up. Beef it up with the vertical grip and flashgun, and it'll look pro enough to impress the uninitiated. :)

Yes, the E-300 is a good camera, and I would have kept mine if I did not thrash it so much. It is capable of producing very good images. Hang to it until next year when Olympus releases their new range of bodies.

As for the colours, you might want to play around with the settings in your camera. Also, it also requires some post work to bring out the colours richly. I sometimes shoot -1/3 stop underexposed for the pics and in post processing, enhance the colours further in Photoshop by playing with Contrast/Brightness.

But of course, there is a lot to learn in Photoshop and understanding your camera. Do a search on the internet for E-300 settings used by various folks who still have them.

Just reading thru here..Blu found out the hard way, E-330, 11~22 and internal flash is not a good mix. Closeup using that usually leave a black spot. The lens blocks the flash somehow.

the internal flash is not tall enough, so some part of the emitted light is blocked by the lens. situation is more severe if there is lens hood on.

Keep the E300! it is def capable of taking great pics!

I went to my frds wedding and took some pics using my E300.
for the wedding photography, as the lights indoors varies, using RAW would be a better choice. :bsmilie:

Yes..blu found out the hard way. Can't reshoot (already back home), can't edit(Shot in JPG)

you bought the 11-22? You definitely need to use an external flash with this lens.

Got that and the FL50 but at that point in time, the FL was not with me. :( So Blu = lousy photographer.

If you don't shoot RAW, try playing around with in-camera saturation and contrast settings.

Things to take note though:
High contrast levels will blow highlights, so watch the lighting.
High saturation levels will kill texture and fine detail.

With that said I find the E-300 has excellent colour reproduction, about as good as the E-1.
The only thing about the E-1 is that the AWB is amazingly accurate, whereas AWB on the E-300 go haywire at times.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I believe each camera has its own great abilities. I would like to uncover the beauty of it before thinking of upgrade.

Speaking of post processing, is it always necessary to enhance our pics using software to derive a better result.. find that can be quite time consuming and tiring. Shouldn't with the right camera setting & shooting skills, great satisfactory pics can be achieved? Post processing should be mininal. And I can jolly just focus on improving on how to shoot well. :D

Speaking for myself, post processing is a *real* pain in the butt. But necessary at times (usually when you screw up when hitting the shutter). That said, post processing done properly *will* enhance the photo; but *post processing done properly* is time-consuming.

So we always strive to get it right the moment we hit the shutter!

Curious : how come definitely must use an external flash with the 11~22mm lens?

Any other 4/3 lenses must also DEFINITELY use external flash?

Oh it's simple really.

The 11-22 is physically too long to be used with the pop-up (the flash would actually cause the lens itself to cast a shadow on your subject).

So any lens larger/longer than the 11-22 would be out as well.
