real winner."

Technology has progressed .... the E30 sounds like a winner ... and will prob cost more than the E3 body alone so maybe MT is right - the E30/12-60 kit may come out same price as the E30/12-54 II kit ....

You do mean E-3 with 12-60 kit and E-30 with 14-54 MkII kit?kind agree with you on E-30 being better than E-3,but well,E-3 is older,so probably no competition,my observations only of course :D

My bad ... I do mean the 14-54/Mk II.

I handled an E3 over the week end again ... am expecting a further price drop of the E3 when the E30 appears .... and just in case I am tempted .... nope. The E3 actually felt clunky now.

IMHO the E520's LCD seems better than the E3's. And LV. The E520's implementation wins hands down so hopefully the E30's will be even better. So ... if the E30's DR is increased ....

You are going to be pleasantly surprised at the DR of the E-30 for sure... ;)

Someone I spoke to say that in spite of the E3 and E30 body being near the same price but if that kit was offered, a 12-60 makes better value than the 14-54 Mk2. But if there is a Mk2 14-54 .... and the next EX would surely have Contrast detection AF, then it stands to reason that the 12-60 may get a Mk2 version as well .... and hence it does make sense to clear the present 12-60 stocks so I do think that it is highly probable that the E3/12-60 kit may be offered at the same price as the E30/14-54 Mk2 kit ...... :dunno:

Right now with the E3 about the same price as the suggest launch price of the E30, the question becomes more of which offers better value - 12-60 or 14-54 Mk2 with Contrast AF capability?

who knows?Maybe when Olympus released the 12-60,they were already thinking "hmmm...we should make the 12-60 contrast capable so that when we release the mid range body,it can use and the new E-X body also can use it", just a thought,no offence meant bro :)

Hi,

The sample photos from the E30 looks very ordinary, like those from P&S camera but everyone seem very excited about it. Am I missing something?

Yes.

Personally I feel that the E30 is showing increased DR.

What P&S are you referring to?

olymac,

There is no particular P&S camera I'm referring to but if look at some of the photos posted from clubsnap forum using P&S camera (whether its Fuji, Sony, Panasonic...) they should be able to achieve what the E30 official website photo :

If I am contemplating on buying the E-30 and were base on their official photos I would be disappointed. I think Olympus should put more effort in their photoshots if they want to attract more consumers.

A camera will only be a tool. Official images only show the effects and how they are like out of camera. You will be hard pressed to find a camera that offers such functions out of camera. Again, there are many user reviews out there if you are looking for them, so comb the internet for photos from users of E-30 (which is already out). China Olympus fan sites already have quite a collection of images from the E-30.

If you are thinking of being an early adopter, then it is about buying in faith, which then renders the need to see samples useless anyway.

A camera is always my tool, I am the master in control of the camera and not the other way round, and I have hardly allowed the sample images to sway my buying decision. I would not consider the E-30 mainly on the fact that it does not offer weatherproofing, but if I am one who does not have much knowledge over Photoshop or any other post processing tools, then the E-30 would be an interesting tool to own.

Based on what the tool was created for (the design concept) is what help me in my buying decision. Hope this helps you too in your consideration.

Cheers.

I think those pics are meant to be more "technical" than artistic.

Same goes for pics from D3, D700, 1D, 5D, 50D etc ..... some of the pics from the afore mentioned forum taken with those cameras are no better than with any other P&S. Esp if low resolution web ready pics were used.

If you are looking for nice pics, better places to start of with would be Nat Geographic, Life etc.

As mentioned a camera is only a tool. You still need good eyes wired to a brain with a more developed artistic sense linked to steady hands attached to a generally capable body.

And then you need to find good subjects.

And then be there for THE MOMENT.

microcosm and olymac,

Thanks for the useful information. At least now I have more confidence in Olympus product.

mactigasuku,

Thanks for the link, photos are much better than those from Olympus site.

By the way I would like to wish everyone a

"Very Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year"

By Jan 2009, I suspect the E3 body will actually be cheaper than the debuting E30 body ... and to sweeten the deal, the above kit may be offered ..... ;)

At the rate the E-3's price is dropping, MTS's prediction in November seems to be spot on .. ;)

e3 alone is around SGD1.5k now.
Any latest pricing update on e3 + 12-60mm ?

e3 alone should be at 1520
12-60 still at 1320
